would be concerned about membership, attendance, finances, mission, service, or anything else.

It is helpful to look at other churches for ideas that might be duplicated or adapted according to Hebron’s particular circumstances, but it is not the case there is a

program that can be purchased and put in place, and it will automatically solve all our problems and fulfill all our goals.

Jesus said, “whoever would save their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake and the gos-pel’s will save it” (Mark 8:35). In the same way, any

church that tries to save itself for its own sake will fail, while any church that gives itself fully to God and to the gospel of Jesus Christ will succeed.

So the first step in renewal or revival is to go to God in prayer, asking God to help us to find what it is that God calls us to be and to do, in order to serve God and

to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, because God will bless us in doing what God wants us to do, and will bless our efforts to spread the good news of Jesus.

By Rev. Frank Wyche

As Heron’s members and the GROW Team work to-ward church renewal and revival, we must always re-member as Christians that the Holy Spirit must be with

us if we are to succeed, and that prayer is not only an important part of the process, it is absolutely vital.

If a church is truly a church, it must recognize that it

belongs to God, and its purpose is to glorify and serve God. And since it is truly God’s church, we need to act according to God’s desires and God’s plans.

So we need to pray for two reasons: First, we need to

earnestly seek and listen for God’s will for the church through prayer; and we need to take our prayers to God

that we will be empowered by the Holy Spirit to do the work God calls us to do.

A simple proof that renewal and revival are the work

of God and not human effort is this: If there were a hu-man way to bring about renewal and revival, someone
