The purpose of the Blessing before Torah Study is to bless the Lord for our daily experiences, to draw  closer  to Him  in worship and  reverence, and  to  thank Him  for His provision and faithfulness.  It  is of great value  to believers  in Christ  to understand  the Hebrew  roots of our  faith.   A deeper understanding of  the background and  context of our Hebraic  roots  can  transform our faith from a black and white understanding of Scripture into “living color” as we see how the Lord’s festival celebrations were a glorious foreshadow of Jesus, our Messiah.  In studying our Hebrew roots, we must however guard against being pulled  into ritualistic and dogmatic observances of traditions and holidays.  We, as Christians, have been grafted into the FAITH of Abraham and not the Law.   As believers  in Christ, we have all, Jews and Gentiles, gained direct access  to God.   No  ritual,  tradition or anything we do  in our own strength  can  earn  us  eternal  life,  but  only  our  acceptance  of  the  free  gift  of  salvation through Jesus Christ.    Whether practiced occasionally, or regularly, these blessings should not be administered in a  legalistic  fashion,  but  rather  studied  for  the  purpose  of  deeper  understanding  of  the       Hebrew culture, and to learn more about God and who He is.  Shalom Alecheim! Dr. Riètte Sinclair
