Lesson Plan: Animals
Created April 2014 for OSRUI Summer Hebrew Program by Emily Rothstein, [email protected]
Objectives: To orally recognize and recall at least 10 of the vocabulary words through instruction and games while having fun!!
Introduction: One madrich makes the sound of the animal while the other says the name of it in Hebrew. After each animal is introduced the entire group repeats it and makes a sandwich “hebrew, English, hebrew.” After every animal has gone, the process of making a sound is repeated but try to have chanichim guess instead (if they do not know madrich can give the answer but don’t forget to make a sandwich!)
Game: 1. Get into circle 2. Madrichim throw stuffed animals back and forth to each other while having chanichim shout out name of the animal - GO SLOW3. Put animals in middle of the circle4. One by one, call out chanich name and tell them to pick up an the “insert hebrew name” - have other chanichim chant the name until the animal is picked up and the person is back in their spot (repeat for all chanichim)5. One chanich throws their animal to a friend and while in air they say their animal’s name in Hebrew. 6. Friend repeats the name of the animal they just caught 7. The chanich that just caught the animals throws their own to a new friend while saying the name8. Repeat steps 5-7
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:- Too many kids?! Not everyone needs to get an animal but make sure that when
people throw their animal it is to someone without an animal, and then the animal can just be repeated
- Not enough kids?! Have a madrich take an animal OR some campers can get two OR just play with the amount of kids you have

Lesson Plan: Occupations
Objectives: To orally recognize and recall at least 10 of the vocabulary words through instruction and games while having fun!!
Introduction: For each word have the madrich plays the game “What Am I”. They say “Ani VOCAB WORD. I SAY THREE THINGS THAT THE PROFESSION DOES, what am I?” Have the chanichim guess what you are and when they get it right they should repeat the hebrew word and then make a hebrew sandwich, “Hebrew, English, Hebrew”
Exercise:1. Break the class into pairs2. assign the words out to the pairs3. Their job is to make a short simple cheer about the word that includes the hebrew
word at least three time — ex: rain, snow, wind hail, we hope the Chatzi’s forecast never fails (Weatherman)
4. Have the groups present out the the whole class
Game:1. Have chanichim get in a line facing away from the madrichim2. Tape onto their backs an index card that has one of the vocab words in hebrew on it
(Hebrew and Transliteration)3. Tell the chanichim they may not look on their backs4. On go, the chanichim can go around to their friends and madrichim asking yes or no
questions about their profession on their back5. Once they guess right they are done but should help their friends figure out theirs6. The game is over when everyone has guessed7. Time permitting you can change around the professions and start again
