Cause of Flood

• Note: Beside heavy downpour from 6/7/2010 onwards, around 20, breaches in rivers and seasonal rivulets (i.e. Pachis dhara flowing in from punjab side) caused major flood)

Community Assets

• Total assessments of loss of community assets like Galis, Dharmshalas, Chaupals, Veterinary Hospital etc. in affected villages have been made & it comes out to be Rs.67 lacs approximately. (List attached)

RELIEF MEASURES

Boats

• Nearly 20 boats were put into operation for rescue and relief.

• Approximately 700 persons rescued.

• NOTE: Besides this helicopter was put on standby at air force station Ambala.

Daily 21 teams, 4 mobile teams are visiting the houses in rural and urban areas.

Activities of Health Deptt.• Medical Teams 21 Special Medical Camps are working in urban area out of which 17

medical teams are deployed in special flood affected colonies and 4 Ambulance Mobile Teams are working in Ambala Cantt Area and 18 medical teams are providing health services in flood affected areas at Ambala Hisar road in Chourmastpur and Naggal areas.

42 Para Medical teams are working in specially rural flood affected

areas at Chourmastpur and Naggal. Which are providing to the flood affected people specially chlorine tablets and ORS packets and they are giving special health talks to the peoples that they have to use these things if they are suffering from Diarhoea and vomiting.

• Fogging 4 hand operated team for Ambala City and 4 hand operated teams for

Ambala Cantt since 10-07-10. 1 vehicle mounted fogging machine operational in Urban and peri

Urban areas of Ambala City since 13-07-10.

Activities of Health Deptt.Spray activity1 seasonal spray gang deployed in Chourmastpur block since 11-07-10 for indoor deltamethrin spray.2 more spray gangs to be deployed in flood affected urban and rural areas.

Anti-Larval activities5 teams each for anti larval activities deployed in both Ambala City and Ambala Cantt for MLO spray on stagnant water bodies.

Fever mass surveyAll medical and para medical teams in both urban and rural flood affected area are preparing blood slides of all fever cases and distributing chloroquine tablets.

• Preventive Measures taken:– HS Vaccination for all cattle population in the

distt.– For health related problems deworming and

digestive tonic provided to all the livestock population in the flood effected area.

– Deworming done in the camps – 9447– Treatment for digestive problems due to

drinking of dirty water – 2231

Food Articles

• With the mobilization of district administration ambala, social organizations and institutions namely gurudwara Manji Sahib, Badshahi Bagh and other gurudwaras temples and NGOS were put into operations and nearly 10000 packets were distributed on 7-7-2010 and onwards and continued till 13-7-2010 as per requirement. Till today nearly 500 packets are being distributed as per situation.

• Supplies made available at door step in rural area byFood & Supply Department of– 36000 liters. Kerosene oil.– 450 LPG Cylinders and more being supplied after getting the

demand

Water Supply

38 water tankers have been pressed into service for supplying drinking water to Ambala City, Ambala Cantt and flood affected rural areas.

Restoration of Water Supply

1. Water supply was restored on the night of 7th itself by deploying Generator Sets at tube well sites, thus making tube wells of water supply functional.

2. Mineral water bottles were distributed at a large scale in the entire affected area on war footing. More than 45000 bottles of water have been distributed so far.

3. Regular water supply was restored on 9th July, 2010 and continuous measures are being taken to ensure high intensity of chlorination in water.

4. Regular water samples are being checked.

Restoration & supply of electricity.

• 60% areas of Ambala city & Ambala Cantt & nearly 50 villages were effected on 6-7-2010 due to submerging of power station at Dhulkot, Saddopur & Chaurmastpur.

• Power Restoration was ensured from 8-7-2010 morning.

Special Measures

• Dewatering /Cleaning and spray arrangements put into action in schools.

• Regular chlorination • Lime powder being sprinkled at various

locations regularly.• Deltamethrin spray.• Additional efforts for cleaning sanitation by

engaging “Sulabh International” in twin cities in addition to the existing infrastructure.

Survey Teams

• 40 teams consisting of officials from Revenue, Education, Health & ICDS Department have been put into pockets of rural areas to ensure facilities like water supply, food items etc. survey of damage of houses, conducting of special Girdawari and to give information on daily basis.

Drainage

• Total 19 pumps installed to drain out the flood water from low lying habitation.

• Public Health Pumps are also functioning in urban areas.

• Breaches in Tangri river are being plugged.

• Temporary outlet/inlet to drain out stagnant water being repaired.

Fodder

• No major demand yet.

• Small requirements are being met locally.
