PLANNING FOR STUART HIGHWAY THROUGH HEAVITREE GAP - FUTURE PATHWAYS This project will investigate options for improving traffic flow through Heavitree Gap for all road users including cars, trucks, bicycles and pedestrians. The Stuart Highway through The Gap is the primary route connecting the north and south of Australia, and future traffic modelling shows that it needs to be duplicated to meet our future needs. We will work with the community on ideas that might be viable to upgrade the road. The engineering solutions we will consider will aim to complement the natural surroundings of the MacDonnell Ranges, the Todd River and respect the cultural heritage of the area. This is a planning project to develop concept designs only. There will be no construction work undertaken on the road, river or to the Gap. Construction will occur in the long term, when the need arises. You are invited to have your say on the development of long term solution for the duplication of the Stuart Highway through Heavitree Gap. Community consultation is open until 16 March 2018.
