Weekly project: Number facts
This week we are going to continue looking at our clever number facts. This week we will
be looking at how a complete number sentence can give us 3 more! Confused? Don’t worry, I will explain…
If I have 3 + 4 = 7 for example.
I can then quickly work out that 4 + 3 must also equal 7, as all I have done is switch the
first two numbers round.
This can also give me two take away number sentences. If we remember our Year 1 take away rule of the biggest number needing to be first then we can work them out. Our
biggest number out of 3, 4 and 7 is 7.
So: 7 – 4 = 3 and 7 – 3 = 4

English Activity 1: Introduction to ‘Christopher’s Caterpillars’.
Today we are going to do some detective work so get your thinking caps on and start stretching your imagination! Have a look at the front cover and the blurb of our book for the week: ‘Christopher’s Caterpillars’. What do you think is going to happen in the story? What characters might there be? Where might the story take place? Have a really good think and write your ideas down, that way we can check at the end how close you were.
English Activity 2: Write a list of caterpillar essentials. Read the story to slide 5 and stop there. Do you think Christopher and Posie’s list is a good one? Write a list of the things you think Christopher and Posie will need to look after the caterpillars.
English Activity 3: Create a story map to help you remember the story. You could add actions to make it even more memorable. Below is an example of a story map, follow the arrows to be reminded of each part of the story.
English Activity 4: Caterpillar descriptive writing
Today you are going to use your knowledge of adjectives to write some descriptive sentences about the
caterpillars. Try using ‘and’ to extend your sentence and add more detail.

English Activity 5: Wanted Poster Re-read the book up to page 10!
Today you are going to produce a wanted poster for the caterpillars.
Where could they have gone?
Using your descriptive language, write a sentence for each section: Animal, colours, amount and reward.
Don’t forget to include a colourful picture to catch the attention of people walking by!
You can now finish the book, finding out what happened to the caterpillars…
