W HEN choosing to take up a new activity, such as Ju Jutsu, what better way to judge whether you'll enjoy it than to talk to those who have been there and already given it a go. Ju Jutsu, the Japanese practical self-protection system and 'original mixed martial art', can provide you with care, fitness and self-discipline, as well as much-needed protection. And here is what the young people who are already doing it at Tai Jutsu Kai (TJK) in Droitwich under the experience and knowledge of instructor Jonathan Sharpe have to say about it. Emily Warner is always first through the doors and, because of her hard work and dedication, she, and a number of other TJK students, will soon be competing at the first ever European championships in October in Cheltenham. Emily's parents are really pleased with her achievements to date and the way her talent for the martial art has been nurtured and developed at TJK. Ryan Miller, 16, who is also competing, coaches three of the five classes and trains in the adult class. He loves the sporting side of Ju Jutsu. Phillip (oddjob) Jones prefers the self- protection the martial art provides, but loves the different sports within the TJK association! And Ryan Holdham, who is training like a true professional, as well as competing at three different formats, prefers the amateur full contact. He said there would be a lot of people reading this who should come and have a go. "I needed to become disciplined, so I approached Mr Sharpe who looks after everyone and I intend to keep up with his punishing training regime," he added. So, now you've heard from those who have tried Ju Jutsu, why not try it yourself. Classes are at Physique Fitness, Droitwich, and Droitwich Leisure Centre For more, call or text Jonathan Sharpe on 07767 306998 or visit: www.tjk- martialarts.co.uk Hear about Ju Jutsu - from those who have tried it!
