COMMUNITY PHARMACY CONTRACTUAL FRAMEWORK
The quality criteria: Meeting the gateway criteria and achievement
of some or all of the quality criteria set for the scheme, will mean
a contractor is eligible for payments under the scheme. The
assessment of whether a criterion has been met will need to be
made in relation to two review points – 28th April 2017 and 24th
November 2017. The payment to the contractor will depend on
how many of the quality criteria they meet.
HLP attract 20 points which is equivalent to £1,280
HEALTH CHAMPIONS
Qualified with Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH)
Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement qualification
Health Champions work to:
• Provide clients with information on health and wellbeing
• Signpost them local services to help adopt healthier lifestyles
• Proactively engage with the community and team
• May deliver health and wellbeing services
LEADERS
Pharmacist/manager will undergo training that encompasses
the following domains
• inspiring a shared purpose
• sharing the vision
• engaging the team
• developing capability
• influencing for results
They will be responsible for creating an ethos of proactive
health and wellbeing in the pharmacy
They will create the best use of team members skill
Jointly with the pharmacy team, they will develop an Action
Plan
HEALTH PROMOTION ZONES
Should be in the pharmacy (not consultation room or window) and
be clearly visible to patients/customers
Must be eye catching and contain only ONE health message at a time
Must contain relevant and up to date resources, which are used by
staff when discussing health promoting interventions
Information must appeal to a wide range of the public including men
and women, young people, ethnic minorities, learning difficulties,
older people
HEALTH PROMOTION ZONES All material should be generic and not promoting one brand over another, which can be seen as an endorsement or promotional
Resources should be updated at least every 2 months (6 campaigns a year)
The purpose of the HPZ is to support local and/or national public health messages
The HPZ can be used to promote pharmacy services such as MURs, Flu Vaccinations, Smoking Cessation, Sexual Health, etc
The HPZ is an excellent way to initiate conversations with patients around difficult subjects such as alcohol, obesity and sexual health

Mandatory:
Leadership - each pharmacy should have a leader that has had appropriate Leadership
training
Health Champion - each pharmacy must have at least one FTE Health
Champion(RSPH L2)

OUTREACH = reaching out to anyone that does not walk in to your
pharmacy
Examples:
displaying a poster in a local community centre/church/mosque/childrens centre
promoting the services you are doing. i.e. ‘XXXXXX Pharmacy is now providing FREE
flu vaccinations, pop in and speak to our Pharmacist or Health Champion for more
information’ holding a market style stall at an event visiting a community group or
school to present a talk holding a ‘Health Fun Day’ outside the pharmacy spending
half hour at a local Dementia Cafe talking to patients and carers visiting a care home

Keep a record of evidence (folder/box) that can be shown if you
are inspected. It should contain:
training certificates (originals or copies)
photos/reports of Health Promotion Zones with each Health
Promotion Campaign and outreach work evidence of team
meetings and actions (via a HLP Action Plan) signposting
information

that there are 28.600 dependant on alcohol in Nottinghamshire. Hospital admissions
related to Nottinghamshire have remained stable over the past five years in line with
national trends. However, Bassetlaw has significantly higher rates for women compared
with the national average.
• It is estimated that there are approximately 16,000 people dependant on
drugs in Nottinghamshire (12,000 of these for cannabis. Mansfield and Bassetlaw
have the highest rates of illicit drug use. • Smoking trends in Nottinghamshire
are similar to the national average at 18%.
However Mansfield has significantly higher levels at 26% in 2013.
