Hello Residents, Family Members, and Friends:

Welcome to the merry month of May!

We have Activities for Residents and their Loved Ones which are sure to bring a Smile!!!

We have “Cinco De Mayo” Fiesta with Entertainment by Leonardo on May 5th, 2017 at 2:15pm

Our “Gardening Club” will be planting flowers in the rear courtyard on May 11th at 12:30pm.

A Mary Kay Representative is coming to visit to pamper our Residents in honor of Mother’s Day on Thursday May 11th, 2017. This beauty event featuring facials and makeovers will begin at 11:00am

The annual Morristown High School Prom is May 12th, 2017 at 6:00p-9:00pThis is a well loved event. Families are encouraged to come and assist your Loved Ones prepare for an evening of music, dancing, refreshments and attend the Prom! Transportation will be provided for the Residents.

Our Mothers Day Celebration will be on Sunday May 14, 2017. We are planning a Brunch to be held at 12:00pm.

The Memorial Day Summer Kick Off BBQ, followed by Entertainment with the Steel Drum by Sterling Sample is Monday May 29th, 2017. The Barbeque will begin at 12:00pm, and at 2:15pm the Steel Drum Entertainment will commence. Please join us as this is a Resident Favorite!

Highlights of the Month Resident of the Month

This spunky lady is Brenda Klein. She was born in Bronx New York at the Lebanon Hospital. Her parents were Goldie and Morris. Her mother was from Romania and her father was from Poland. Her parents met in the USA at work doing needle trades. Her mother sewed and was a sample maker. Her father was responsible for cutting fabric to create dresses. Her parents were married in 1916 in New York City.

Brenda’s brother Irving was the first born in 1917 and Brenda later was born in 1924. Brenda’s older brother had a huge responsibility to take care of her. She says that he taught her how to swim and roller-skate. She says he also attempted to teach her chess but she couldn’t really pick up on it. Her brother was good at math and Brenda was very good a learning different languages.

Brenda and her family lived in Brighton Beach located in Southern Brooklyn New York. Brenda went to Grammar School at PS225, and all day she says, the children would have their bathing suits under their clothing. After school at 3 pm, they would all run to the beach, and run home before parents came from work. For High school, Brenda’s family had to move to Williamsburg in Northern Brooklyn because of the depression. She attended Eastern District High

school, and wasn’t to fond of it, but her home room teacher Molly Berman noticed Brenda’s potential and spoke to her mother about College. Due to certain circumstances Brenda went to College later on in life and took a couple night classes.

At fifteen, Brenda met her husband Bernard Klein at the YWHA. She was then engaged at eighteen. During that time her husband went into the service for WWII on July 1942 until June 1943. Then in June 12th, 1943, they got married. He was stationed in Central California. Six weeks later he was sent over seas. Then Brenda moved back to Brooklyn and worked as liquidation bureau as a secretary for two of the vice presidents.

In December 1945, Bernard came home, and in August 1945 the war ended. Brenda expressed that she couldn’t wait to have a baby. Then she was blessed with Roberta on October 15th, 1946, Alan on December 3rd, 1950, Glynis on August 30th, 1954, and William on September 12th, 1956.

Before Spring Hills, Brenda was living with her son William. She says she enjoys the fact that she has made friends at Spring Hills and she also enjoys the library and coloring.
