The Recreational Complex at NMSU is composed of the Activity & Aquatic Centers, and Intramural Fields. These facilities have extended week day and week end hours.
Campus Health Center (CHC)Healthcare services are available to faculty, staff, retirees and dependents (who are enrolled in the NMSU health insurance plan). The CHC serves as an acute outpatient health clinic for employees and their families. All participants should have a designated PCP for chronic health conditions. Services are subject to insurance co-pays and due at the time of service.
CHC Services:• Pharmacy (does not participate in
drug plan)• Laboratory• X-ray• Immunizations* Employees have the option of using the insurance plan for outside orders and drugs or utilizing the CHC which is approximately 40% less than community pricing
Employees may access the CHC without the use of sick leave as an employee benefit
The CHC is open M-F from 7:30 am- 4:30 pm. The Center observes all university closures.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)EAP provides confidential counseling for faculty and staff experiencing personal and work related issues affecting their job performance. Faculty and staff experiencing issues with alcohol or drug abuse are encouraged to contact us. A faculty and staff's spouse or significant other are also eligible for services. There is no cost for counseling. EAP services are located at the Campus Health Center.
EAP provides consultation for department heads and supervisors concerning identification and intervention of faculty and staff experiencing personal or work related issues affecting job performance. EAP professional staff are available for educational seminars pertaining to general well-being, leadership, and work related issues.
EAP is a short term counseling and referral service. Employee issues that require long term treatment will be referred to appropriate community resources. EAP may provide post-treatment follow-up services as needed.
Work Related Injuries & IllnessIf you are injured at work, you do not need to be on the NMSU health plan to receive medical care at the Campus Health Center. In fact, NMSU recommends that an injured employee see a CHC provider first for all medical care and for any specialist referrals for a work related injury.
Exceptions are:• Need for emergency hospital care• Serious injury that occurs after CHC clinic
hours• Injury that occurs outside Las Cruces area
Important information for injured workers:• Any on the job injury should be reported
immediately to a supervisor• The CHC has a Workers Comp Specialist to
assist employee with necessary paperwork, if outside Las Cruces give to supervisor or local HR Representative
• All paperwork, medical reports, return to work slips must be given to supervisor and WC Specialist
• Every claim will be investigated by the WC Specialist and the Risk Management Division. If the claim is accepted, payment will be made for anything directly related to the on-the-job injury. If the claim is denied, the injured employee is responsible for medical expenses.
