Health Services Family Association, Outside School Hours Care aims to

provide a holistic service that derives its philosophy from the Principles

and Practices of “My Time Our Place” the framework for school aged care.

Through safe secure and reciprocal relationships the children will feel safe and secure and respected and

valued members of our community.

Partnerships created in the centre reflect a family environment where

the individuals and their contributions are valued and

relationships are based on trust.

The program provides a platform for every child to achieve and gain confidence. It is based on fun; learning through play, whilst

maintaining high expectations of each individuals contribution.

All families and communities, their practices and beliefs are respected, encouraging an environment that is

all inclusive and open.

Staff are committed to enriching their practices through ongoing

reflection and evaluation, therefore creating a rich, dynamic and holistic

program

WELCOME BACK FOR TERM 2

To all our new families at HSFA we wish to extend a very warm welcome into our

community and thank you for entrusting us with the care of your children.

Toward the end of last term we welcomed Natasha to our administration team, she will

be working along side me in the office to provide full day cover of the office. We have

also had a few new faces on the floor Alex, Kelly and Dmitry who have joined our casual

staff. Alex will be leaving us at the end of this month as she awaits the birth of her first

child we wish her well in the next phase of her journey. They have quickly formed warm

relationships with children and other team members and we feel privileged to have

them as part of our team

Included with this newsletter is a letter with the Bus Run information along with an introduction letter and an electronic swipe access form.

The bus run letters provide you with the name of your child's run, mobile contact and the collection points for that run. Please remember to email or call the office before calling or texting the mobile as they are only on from 2 :15pm.

The electronic swipe card form for families to complete if they do not currently have swipe access, this form is to be typed not hand written, please.

At all times please feel free to contact us with your questions and or concerns.

Clare Connor (Coordinator) Brenda Bishop (Supervisor) are always available to speak

with you. We are here to support your needs as working parents.

April Vacation Care…. Did your children enjoy April vacation care as much as the educators ?

Did they come home as tired as the educators ?

We all thought everyone had an amazing time.

From “Loose Parts” to a “Retreat into the Forest”, swimming, roller-skating,

Jungle Gym-ing and learning about Landcare we had fun and learnt so

much about our world and ourselves.

We are now putting ideas together for July vacation care, all the time

keeping in mind how tricky the weather may be.

We are always open to new ideas from you and your children.

Unfortunately, as most parents will now be fully aware, Nedlands City Council have zoned the side streets surrounding the Centre NO PARKING. The Ranger frequently pa-trols this area so it is important that all parents use the drop off bays. While we under-stand this is an inconvenience it is very important that families resist the urge to park on the side of the road or the verges around the Centre as this poses a safety risk to the children and other road users.

Parking is available outside T-Block beside our buses, the hospital has set aside drop off

and collection parking for parents which is across from Campsie St. Parents are also

entitled to park free in the overflow car park in front of the Lions Eye Institute for up to

15 minutes if all bays in T Block are full. In order to not receive a fine you just need to

press the dispense ticket button on the pay machines and display the ticket which will

give you a 15 minute free period. If you require information about parking please see the

office staff.

Thank you for all your continued support and patience with this matter were well aware its not easy and can be very frustrating.

Please do not park the street verges or in any of our “neighbour's” driveways

SIDS and Kids is dedicated to

saving the lives of babies and

children during pregnancy, birth,

infancy, childhood and

supporting bereaved families.

Each year Red Nose Day is the

last Friday in June.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY – 5TH

World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. The WED theme this year is "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care." The well-being of humanity, the environment, and the functioning of the economy, ultimately depend upon the responsible management of the planet’s natural resources. Get Active @ HSFA…. Get Active @ HSFA recommences on Tuesday 10th May. The program will once again be running on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and

you may choose to enrol your child in either one of these days. The program will run for a total of 5 weeks, commencing in week 3

and finishing up in week 8. This term the children will be participating in a “ball skills and drills” program, in which they will learn

and practice ball handling skills centred around various different sports. We will have a high focus on throwing and catching, and

also footwork skills (soccer) and the sports we will be focusing on are: basketball, cricket, tennis and soccer. All of the sessions will

be heavily games based and we are looking forward to a fun and inclusive program. We are hoping for an even bigger sign up rate

then last term so if your child is interested please ask for a sign up sheet. If you have any questions regarding the program or how

it will be run please do not hesitate to ask Joanna when you next are in.

Homework ……

If your child hasn’t joined our Homework Club yet feel free to sign them up. You will need to email or speak to

Brenda, who will add their name to the list. It is also helpful to talk to your children about what is expected of them

during the homework time. It is wonderful to see how the children are

self-motivated and taking responsibility for their own learning. It is also lovely that the older children assist the

younger ones with reading and spelling. We have many resources in our library /learning areas that

support the Australian Curriculum as well as individual activities that stimulate exploration and higher

level thinking skills.

Cupcake tin math: This is an activity that could be used while you are cooking in the kitchen, while

your child is sitting at the table or just as a fun learning activity you can do together.

Materials: Muffin tin/s (6 and 12 hole), cereal or dried beans…

· Setup: Write the numbers one through six on six small post it papers. Place these papers in the bottom of

each muffin tin hole. Start by ensuring numbers are in order

· Play: Have your child place one cereal piece in the one space and two in the two and so on.

· Extend: Mix up the numbers so they aren’t in order - use a 12-hole muffin tin, count backwards as the cereal is taken away from the holes.

WANTED…..

All your recycling products— (preferably not plastic as it is

hard to cut) boxes, tubes, bottle lids, ribbon, anything you

think your children could use as a craft material. Please

don't throw in the bin, bring it to the centre.

Sustainability Corner

World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day on June 8th is the United Nations recognised day of ocean celebration and action. This year, people all over our blue planet are celebrating with the theme “Healthy Oceans, Healthy Planet.” Organisations and individuals around the world are promoting prevention of plastic ocean pollution with events in their communities, special announcements, and everything in between!

How can you get involved?

“Simply take 3 pieces of rubbish with you when you

leave the beach, waterway or …anywhere

and dispose of them thoughtfully.”

Take 3' is a not-for-profit organisation formed in Australia in 2009 that aims to raise awareness of plastic pollution (marine debris) by encouraging each visitor to the beach,

waterway or...anywhere to simply take 3. We also encourage

everyone to reduce unnecessary plastic consumption - and make our lives a little less plastic! Find out more at http://www.take3.org.au.

Policy reviews… We love to have input from parents about our policies, the review of the existing policies will begin in June. Current policies are on

display in the pink folder on the sign out desk.

The new parents hand book can also be found in this same folder along with the working copy of the QIP. We have worked hard to

make the parent handbook easier to follow and filled with the necessary information for parents regarding care, center policies

and procedures.

Any feedback is always welcome.

LOST AND FOUND PROPERTY…. Lost property that is named is now placed under the noticeboard at front entrance. All un-named lost items are in the cupboard which the “Memories and Reflections” diary sits. All lost property not collection by the end of term will be donated to the school uniform shops.

Children's Belongings…

Please remember, as per the policy, children are asked to leave

special belongings at home or in their bags. We are unable to

monitor belongings and it can become time consuming for staff

and upsetting for children trying to resolve each issue and look

for lost items.
