CHCR’s HICAP Volunteer Counselor Program Understanding Medicare and health insurance coverage options can be complicated and confusing.

Our HICAP Volunteer Counselors:

• Provide impartial, accurate and easy to understand information on Medicare. • Help Medicare beneficiaries and family members understand how Medigap insurance and

Medicare Advantage plans supplement Medicare coverage. • Provide information on financial assistance programs that help with medical costs. HICAP Volunteer Counselors provide in-person Medicare counseling services by appointment at local community agencies in Los Angeles County.

HICAP Volunteer Program Requirements• Complete an initial 24 hour training program, internship and HICAP registration;• Agree to provide a minimum of 8 HICAP counseling hours each month;• Participate in 12 hours of continuing education activities each year.
