HEALTH CONDITION IN PAKISTAN

WHAT IS HEALTH??
According to WHO “Health is a state of complete physical,
mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”
HEALTH CARE IN PAKISTAN:
Health is one of major indicator for the development of any country but unfortunately the condition of healthcare is still not satisfactory in Pakistan.

THALLASAEMIA BREAST CANCER
Thalassaemia is on the rise in Pakistan and statistics indicate that about 3,000 to 4,000 children are born with the more virulent form of the disease, called Thalassaemia- major every year.
Approximately one in every 9 Pakistani women is likely to suffer from breast cancer which is one of the highest incidence rates in Asia.
DENGUE FEVER
Dengue fever is endemic in Pakistan with seasonal rise in cases.

POLIO
Pakistan is one of the few countries in which poliomyelitis have not been eradicated.
MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH
The 2010 maternal mortality rate per 100,000 births for Pakistan is 260. This is compared with 376.5 in 2008 and 541.2 in 1990.
The under 5 mortality rate, per 1,000 births is 89 and the neonatal mortality as a percentage of under 5's mortality is 48.
In Pakistan the number of midwives per 1,000 live births is 10 and the lifetime risk of death for pregnant women is 1 in 93.
The sad reality is that 80 per cent of maternal deaths are preventable.

HEALTH CARE
Healthcare in Pakistan is administered mainly in the private sector which accounts for approximately 80% of all outpatient visits. The public sector was until recently led by the Ministry of Health, however the Ministry was abolished in June 2011 and all health responsibilities (mainly planning and fund allocation) were devolved to provincial Health Departments which had until now been the main implementers of public sector health programs.
HEALTH SERVICES IN PUNJAB:
Health Department is the key department entrusted by the people of Punjab with the fundamental responsibility for the health of communities and the entire population. The services for Punjab are provided through a well designed infrastructure.
Health Department across the province is divided into: 2,461 Basic Health Units (BHUs) 293 Rural Health Centers (RHCs) 88 Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals (THQs) 34 District Headquarter Hospitals (DHQs) 23 Teaching/ tertiary Care Hospitals
HEALTH CARE SERVICES IN PUNJAB
Preventive Care ServicesPreventive care refers to measures taken to prevent diseases, (or injuries) rather than curing them or treating their symptoms.
Primitive ServicesThese services are defined as "The process of enabling people to increase control over their health and its determinants, and thereby improve their health".
Curative Care ServicesCurative care is the kind of health care traditionally oriented towards seeking a cure for an existent disease or a medical condition.
Rehabilitation ServicesRehabilitative services can help people, with disabilities, to get gainfully employed and do away with reliance on others. This includes meeting the physical, psychosocial, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families while incorporating the nursing and rehabilitative processes. Such Services should be provided to all patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings at all levels of care.
HEALTH CARE DELIVERY SYSTEM
1. Outreach and community-based services, 2. which focus on immunization, sanitation, malaria control,
maternal and child health and family planning. 3. Primary Health Care
the primary care facilities include Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health centers (RHCs) mainly preventive, outpatient and basic inpatient care.
4. Secondary Health CareTehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) and District Headquarters Hospital(DHQ) for outpatient, inpatient and also specialist care.
5. Tertiary CareTertiary care hospitals located in the major cities for more specialized inpatient care.
