Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living organism. In humans, it is the general condition of a person's mind and body, usually meaning to be free from illness, injury or pain. The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health in its broader sense in 1946 as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”Health can be classified as:-

What do we mean?Physical health can be defined as an essential part of overall health of an individual, which includes everything from physical fitness to overall wellbeing.

Health can be defined as a state of complete well-being and physical health as a state of physical well-being in which an individual is mechanically fit to perform their daily activities and duties without any problem.

Physical health is a way to maintain our health and fitness through exercise or life-style activities such as walking, jogging, running, bicycling, doing yoga and feeding our body with the right type of food and drinks.

There are so many ways to maintain and retain physical health which also improves our overall health and thus improves our immunity system and reduces the chance of illness, disease and injury. Also it often helps in faster and better recovery when you have been unwell.

Today a large number of health problems are caused by our unhealthy lifestyle and misuse of technology. Sometimes we are more interested in employing health in our body as if it is a service, instead of adopting a healthy lifestyle which can improve physical health but also makes one feel better.

Page 5: Health

There are four categories of things that affect physical health. You can not always control the things that affect your physical body. But, you can do your best to prevent injury and help you body to function at well

• Lifestyle : This is the element of physical health that we have the most control over. This includes our diet, our emotional health, our level of physical activity, and our behaviors. Tobacco use is a problem for many people - quitting tobacco is an important behavioral change. Your health plan may offer a cessation program. There are things that we can change about our lifestyles to help our bodies stay healthy. Get more information on healthy living.

Human Biology : There may be things in our genetics and our chemistry that are perceived as abnormalities. They may make it harder to achieve complete physical health. There are ways that our body compensates for disabilities. Even though we can not control our genetics we can control how we treat our illnesses.

Environment : Our environment includes the type of air we breathe, the places we live and our surroundings. We may have to change our environments if they are really bad for our physical health.

Healthcare Services. These are the services that we get to help us prevent illness, detect illness or treat illness.

We need to take care of every aspect of our being in order to achieve good physical health. Positive emotions are linked to better physical health. We must try to keep a balance in our lives. Some things that we can do to take care of our physical bodies include:

Rest. Our body needs a certain amount of hours of sleep every night in order to function properly. After hard work or especially trying times it is important that we take time to rest and allow our bodies time to recover.

Eat healthy. Our bodies use food as fuel. We must remember to eat regularly. We have to watch what we eat. Sugars and fatty foods can make it harder for our bodies to function as they were designed to.

Exercise. Our bodies were designed to be physically active. We have to remember that in order to keep our bodies healthy we must take time each day to exercise.

Hygiene. It is important that we keep our bodies clean. This can help to protect against illness and infection.

Get regular check-ups. We need to see our doctors regularly so that they can monitor our physical health and tell us about any changes we may need to make to keep our bodies healthy.

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act as we cope with life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

There's no sure way to prevent mental illness. However, if you have a mental illness, taking steps to control stress, to increase your resilience and to boost low self-esteem may help keep your symptoms under control. Follow these steps:

Pay attention to warning signs. Work with your doctor or therapist to learn what might trigger your symptoms. Make a plan so that you know what to do if symptoms return. Contact your doctor or therapist if you notice any changes in symptoms or how you feel. Consider involving family members or friends to watch for warning signs.

Get routine medical care. Don't neglect checkups or skip visits to your family health care provider, especially if you aren't feeling well. You may have a new health problem that needs to be treated, or you may be experiencing side effects of medication.

Get help when you need it. Mental health conditions can be harder to treat if you wait until symptoms get bad. Long-term maintenance treatment also may help prevent a relapse of symptoms.

Take good care of yourself. Sufficient sleep, healthy eating and regular physical activity are important. Try to maintain a regular schedule. Talk to your provider if you have trouble sleeping or if you have questions about diet and exercise.

Anxiety is a normal human emotion that everyone experiences at times. Many people feel anxious, or nervous, when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or making an important decision. Anxiety disorders, however, are different. They can cause such distress that it interferes with a person's ability to lead a normal life.

Page 10: Health

The exact cause of anxiety disorders is unknown; but anxiety disorders -- like other forms of mental illness -- are not the result of personal weakness, a character flaw, or poor upbringing. As scientists continue their research on mental illness, it is becoming clear that many of these disorders are caused by a combination of factors, including changes in the brain and environmental stress.

Like other brain illnesses, anxiety disorders may be caused by problems in the functioning of brain circuits that regulate fear and other emotions. Studies have shown that severe or long-lasting stress can change the way nerve cells within these circuits transmit information from one region of the brain to another. Other studies have shown that people with certain anxiety disorders have changes in certain brain structures that control memories linked with strong emotions. In addition, studies have shown that anxiety disorders run in families, which means that they can at least partly be inherited from one or both parents, like the risk for heart disease or cancer. Moreover, certain environmental factors -- such as a trauma or significant event -- may trigger an anxiety disorder in people who have an inherited susceptibility to developing the disorder.

Social health is a term generally

used to refer to two different concepts,

though they are somewhat interrelated

as well. In one sense it refers to the health of a person in

reference to his or her ability to interact with others and thrive

in social settings. It can also refer to the health of a society in

general, and how the members of that society are treated and

behave toward each other. Social health is often considered of

great importance in regards to individual health, especially as

further information and research has established how social

interactions can assist in improving other forms of health.

Page 12: Health

As humans, we are social creatures. Many parts of our lives are dependent upon interacting with others, and belonging to a group. Interaction with and caring for others, and believing others care for us, is necessary for us to lead a healthy, balanced life. Because of this natural tendency, Social Wellness is another important factor for achieving optimum health.

The way we define Social Wellness is our ability to maintain healthy, supportive relationships with other people. And by improving your social health skills, you will be able to make choices that lead to positive interactions and enhance harmony in your personal relationships.

Page 13: Health

Many studies, like this one in Consumer Reports, have documented how poor social health results in sickness and disease. A social issue like isolation and loneliness caused by a poor support network doubles your risk of death within any time period, at any age – a risk greater than smoking cigarettes!

On the other hand, Social Wellness leads to improvement in all areas of your life. When you make the choice to improve your social health, you will perform better under stress, boost your self- esteem, increase your energy levels and achieve better overall physical health.

Page 14: Health

Social Wellness is necessary for your well-being and longevity, and an integral part of any wellness program. However, if you are shy or introverted, being “social” may not always come easily.

Remember, you don’t need to make drastic changes. You simply need to make progress...

Start today by deciding one simple thing you could do today to improve your social health, whether it’s to make lunch plans with a friend, schedule a “play date” with your best friend, or join a new club - and then just do it!

Page 18: Health

4. Exercise 30 minutes 5 days a week. Exercising in the morning can leave you with a refreshed feeling throughout the day and can put you in a good mental health and it will be easier for you to think positively and generate a better appetite. You can also get involved in activities such as swimming, biking, walking or playing your favorite sport in order to keep you healthy. Go for activities that you enjoy and not force yourself to activities that you despise, whereby you will lose interest and stop exercising and try to do your activities in the open air.

Page 19: Health

5. Realize that positive thinking is very essential in order to be healthy. Clear out your mind of all negative thoughts and fill it with positive ones. You will have to remove all the depressing and negative emotions and thoughts from your mind and replace it with healthy and positive thoughts. These positive thoughts can be extremely energizing and always lead to good things in life. You can get involved in practices such as meditation and yoga to get rid of the negativity and force yourself with positive thoughts.

Anorexia

People with anorexia have a real fear of weight gain and a distorted view of their body size and shape. As a result, they can't maintain a normal body weight. Many teens with anorexia restrict their food intake by dieting, fasting, or excessive exercise. They hardly eat at all — and the small amount of food they do eat becomes an obsession.

Page 21: Health

Of course, eating a well-balanced diet and getting plenty of exercise are key. But healthy living is more than simple daily habits – it's a lifestyle. Whether you're remodeling your home, embarking on a camping trip, or going shopping for new gear, here are some simple strategies to help you always choose well.
