Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends, Another school year is drawing to a close and so much is sll going on. Last Monday 2 July saw all the students move up into their new year groups and begin their new metables in new classes. It was good to see how focused and engaged the students were in their new classes despite the soaring temperatures. Last week we also welcomed our new intake who will join Longdean in September. The 240 students spent two full days with us taking part in lessons, carrying out a range of acvies designed to familiarise them with the school and also enjoying a concert produced and performed by current Longdean students. I look forward to seeing them again with their parents at the Year 6 Parent’s Evening on Tuesday 17 July. It was also a very busy weekend for Longdean students. On Saturday a number of our Performing Arts students performed a dance roune at the Brish Grand Prix. Their performance linked to the theme of Heroes was very well received and performing before such large numbers was a great achievement. Also at the weekend, I joined over 40 Longdean students who took part in their final Duke Of Edinburgh Bronze expedion. Despite the high temperatures the students showed great resilience and determinaon to complete the two days walking with one overnight stop at Green Park in Aston Clinton. I would now encourage those students to get their other elements signed off in order to be presented with the award in the Autumn Term. As you know literacy has been one of our priories for this academic year. Every day the school Drops Everything and Reads for 20 minutes. The books that the students read are also linked to quizzes and I have been very impressed with the number of these that the students have completed. Listed below are the students who have completed most end of book quizzes this year. Well done to you all. I am however delighted to tell parents that the school is fully staffed from September with teachers appointed by the school and who fit our commitment to excellent teaching for all students and support the values and ethos of Longdean. With these strong appointments I am sure that the school will connue to go from strength to strength. Students who are collecng examinaon results please remember that A Level results are available on Thursday 16 August from 10am and GCSE results are available on Thursday 23 August. Year 11 should arrive for 10am and students collecng GCSE opon results should arrive from 11am. This has been a very intensive year at Longdean but it has been filled with many successes and highlights, some of which are outlined above. Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,

At this time of year we say goodbye to colleagues who have given excellent service to the school. I am however delighted to tell parents that the school is fully staffed from September with teachers appointed by the school and who fit our commitment to excellent teaching for all students and support the values and ethos of Longdean. With these strong appointments I am sure that the school will continue to go from strength to strength.

Students who are collecting examination results please remember that A Level results are available on Thursday 16 August from 10am and GCSE results are available on Thursday 23 August. Year 11 should arrive for 10am and students collecting GCSE option results should arrive from 11am.

This has been a very intensive year at Longdean but it has been filled with many successes and highlights, some of which are outlined above. I would like to thank all parents for the support they have given to the school over this year.

I wish you all an enjoyable Summer and look forward to working with you in the Autumn Term.

When collecting your child from school, please try our turning circle service first. New spaces become

available very rapidly once school has ended; it is a quick way to collect your child and move off; and using the

turning circle is much appreciated by our local residents.

Although we offer the turning circle as a service to parents wishing to stop for a short period of time to collect

their child from school, it will never accommodate every parent car, particularly in poor weather, when more

parents tend to collect their children. If you find that the turning circle is full, please move through it and back

out to the road. One option is to park out on the road. For pupil safety and for access of our pupils in

wheelchairs, please park legally, avoiding the hazard markings, pavements and dropped curbs, even if this

means that your child has to walk a few more metres down the road to meet you. Alternatively, you are

welcome to circle back around into the turning circle again to see whether a space has now become available.

Please note that as per the red sign at the car park entrance, the car park is only for staff and visitors and is

not available to parents for parking, even if the turning circle is full or the weather is poor. Any spaces which

appear to be free will have already been earmarked for visitors arriving for meetings and staff from other

schools joining us for professional development training; and it is unsafe for pupils to be crossing the car park

to parent cars as there are no pedestrianised walkways. Any parent who parks in the staff or visitor car park

will be asked why they are there for safeguarding purposes and to keep the spaces free for the booked visitors

and will be asked to leave the car park.

Staff on duty will always try to assist parents by letting them know if there is a space further forward around

the turning circle that has become available and in return, we would ask that any instructions given by staff on

duty are followed promptly and politely.

If your child is regularly collected by someone other than you, it would be much appreciated if you could

make them aware of these procedures.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

On Saturday 7 July, a group of 33 Longdean students went to Silverstone racetrack to perform at the prestigious Formula 1 Grand Prix.

It was a very long day for all involved, but despite the heat the students performed phenomenally in front of thousands of people on the track.

A massive well done to all students involved for their exemplary behaviour and wonderful performance!

Outcome…In probability, we usually refer to the word

outcome i.e., the different things that could possibly

happen.

For example, if I toss a coin, My outcomes are either: head

or tail.

If a toss 2 coins: HH, TT, HT, TH

What if I toss 3 coins, 4 or 5 coins?

What do you notice?

‘FOUR’ is the only number in the English

language that is spelt with the same

If Mrs Wilkins, Matron, has been holding any medication for your child, please ensure they collect it on the last day of term, Friday 20 July 2018 and return it again at the beginning of next term.

In September, a new consent form will be given to your child to give permission for Longdean School to hold medication for them.

Please return the completed form with the correct information (including dosage and instructions) on the first day of term, Wednesday 5 September 2018.

Thank you.

Ten parents have been fined by Hertfordshire County Council for their child's non-attendance at school this academic year. Please support your child by ensuring that they are in school every day, as far as possible.

Nothing is more critical to attainment than consistent attendance.

Well done to all of the students who achieved 100% so far this academic year.

Independent Learning and Homework at Longdean Please remember to discuss your child’s Independent Learning and Homework set on Show My Homework using the app or the website https://longdean.showmyhomework.co.uk/school/homeworks/calendar where you can find the entire school’s homework and filter by subject, teacher, or class without logging in. For specific details about your child’s homework, please log in to this website or the app. We recommend half an hour a night, Monday through Thursday, on sites such as Sam Learning, GCSE Pod, BBC Bitesize, Linguascope and MyMaths. Links to these sites can be found on the Exam Support and Homework sections of the LLP.
