HERBS/Species/Oils Remedies FOR HEADACHE RELIEF

1BetelBetel leaves have analgesic and cooling properties. To reduce intense headache, apply the Betel(Pan) leaf paste over the painful area.
2CloveThe aroma of the clove has a headache-allaying effect. It can soothe the nerves and bring it back to a pacified state. Take crushed Clove (Lawang) add some common salt and consume it with hot milk.
3GarlicGarlic has almost miraculous properties in relieving headaches, of whatever type they are. Their juice slowly permeates the head region and acts as a painkiller.
4GingerGinger has painkilling properties. Due to this property, it is used as an external application on the affected head region. This gives relief from the headache.
5TulasiA paste prepared by the flowers of Tulasi is applied to the forehead for relief from headache
6Rauwolfia serpentina It can be powdered, mixed with honey and consumed thrice a day for relief from piercing headaches.
7Feverfew Taking an average of 2 or 3 fresh leaves reduce headache
8CastorApply some ghee on leaf of castor and then keep life on head
9Black PepperHeadache due to cold apply paste of black pepper on forhead
10Amla PowderTake 5-10 gm of amla powder with equal ghee and sugar twice a day
11SandalwoodRub Sandalwood in water on a clean surface. Apply the paste prepared on head. When it is dry apply next layer of paste on it. Repeat the procedure three to four time. This is specially good for headache caused by heat
12Rosemary(i) Simply massage your forehead and temples with a few drops of rosemary oil mixed in a tablespoon of carrier oil.
(ii) Alternatively, make an herbal tea by boiling one teaspoon of crushed rosemary leaves and one teaspoon of crushed sage leaves in a cup of water. Cover it while boiling and then let it steep for 10 minutes. Let the tea cool to room temperature, then drink it. You can have this herbal tea two to three times a day. If both the herbs are not available, you can make the tea with either of the two herbs alone.
13Mint Extract mint juice from a handful of mint leaves and apply it on forhead and temples to treat headache
14Basil(I) Chew some fresh basil leaves or massage your forehead with basil oil mixed with a base oil.
(ii) You can also boil one tablespoon of basil leaves or a few drops of basil oil to a pot of boiling water and carefully lean over the pot to take in the steam.
(iii) Put three or four fresh basil leaves in a cup of boiling water and let it simmer for a few minutes. Optionally, add a little honey and then sip the tea slowly.
15Lavender oil(I) Put a few drops of lavender essential oil on a tissue and inhale it. You can also add two drops of lavender oil to two cups of boiling water and inhale the steam.
(ii)Another option is to mix two or three drops of lavender essential oil in one tablespoon of carrier oil such as almond oil or olive oil and massage your forehead with it
16ApplesSimply eat an apple with some salt.
17Cinnamon Cinnamon is another herb that can effectively treat headache. Take some cinnamon sticks and grind them to make a powder out of it. Now add some water to this powder to make a thick paste and apply it on your forehead and temples and lie down for half an hour. Soon you will get relief from headache. After some time wash your forehead with lukewarm water. This remedy is helpful when headache is caused by exposure to cold air.
