THE SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The word from Father Arek . . .

Please pay attention to the way Jesus responds to Mary's request in today’s Gospel. This was not just familial respect. It was love that moved his heart. Jesus cared about the things that were important to the

Blessed Virgin Mary, just as she had his concerns uppermost in her heart. Isn't that what intimacy is all about?

This intimacy with Jesus is what makes Mary such a powerful intercessor. The goal of anyone taking up intercessory prayer is to unite themselves with the needs of those they are praying for - and to unite themselves to God at the same time. They become a bridge, so to speak, between the needs of the people and the will and heart of the One who answers every need in his wisdom and compassion.

But Mary is more than a great intercessor; she is also a model for us of what intimacy with God looks like. Only someone who knows God's heart can boldly approach his throne the way she does. Only a person who surrenders their life to the Lord can be close enough to not only hear what is on his heart but also get others to listen to and obey him as well. As she did that day in Cana, Mary always points us to her Son and our Lord Jesus.

Can you become as close to Jesus as Mary was? Yes, it is possible! You need to believe it! Every day when you wake up, give your heart to Jesus and then try your best to live close to Him throughout the day. The results will astound you!

Collection for Latin America

Next weekend, the Archdiocese of Chicago asked all parishes to take a second collection for Latin America. Your financial contribution helps fellow Catholics in Latin America and the Caribbean. They are rich in spirit but lacking in material resources to participate more fully in the life of the Church. Please be generous. Collection for our Parish - December, 2021

Our collection total from all weekends for the month of December, excluding the Christmas collection, was $52,131. Thank you very much for your generosity and ongoing support!

Renew My Church Meeting

Bishop Andrew Wypych, the regional bishop and Cardinal Cupich’s representative to our region of the archdiocese, will be with us on Wednesday, January 26th at 6:30PM, to join us in prayer and share an important update on the future of our parishes. This will be held online. Please go to www.renewmychurch.org/announcements for details about how to access the meeting from your computer or smartphone. Why do we keep Christmas Decorations until the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (Feb.2)?

“Like many other feasts connected with specific places in Jesus’ life, that of the presentation of the Lord in the Temple originated there; it was celebrated as a continuation of the birth of the Lord. The Candlemas in English-speaking lands, now called “Presentation of the Lord,” has returned to its original orientation: it is a celebration of the Lord that concludes the solemnities of the Nativity, although Ordinary Time has already begun on the day of the Epiphany. … The Feast of the Presenta-tion of the Lord is a prolongation of the feast of the Nativity. But it has a definite paschal coloration: the acclamation of Christ as Light is a prelude to that which will flow unrestrained in the liturgy of the Easter Vigil: the encounter with God coming among us, in his Son made human, has its prolongation and fulfillment in the encounter of the Risen Christ is preparing for us at the end of our earthly pilgrimage, in a pasch like his“ (Days of the Lord: The Liturgical Year. Volume 7. Solemnities and Feast by Liturgical Press, Collegeville, MN. p. 103-105).

In Christ and His Blessed Mother,

Your Pastor, Fr. Arek Falana

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

Incarnation rejoices in the incorporation of new members into the Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism. Please come into the Parish Office during business hours to schedule your child's baptism. Parents are to attend a mandatory Baptismal Preparation Class prior to Baptism. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is celebrated on the first and third Sunday of every month (except Lent) at 12:30PM in the Church.

Please remember to include Incarnation in your will. ♥

THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY

Incarnation helps couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but the lifelong commitment of living a Christian marriage. Parishioners of Incarnation who are baptized and free to marry in the Catholic Church may celebrate their marriage at our Parish. Interested couples seeking marriage should contact one of the parish priests at least six months prior to their intended date of marriage.

MINISTRY OF CARE Several members of our Parish community have been trained and mandated by the Archdiocese of Chicago to pray with and bring the Holy Eucharist to the sick and home-bound parishioners. Please call the Parish Office if you are in need of this service.

REQUESTING COPIES OF SACRAMENTAL CERTIFICATES

THE SACRAMENT OF

CONFESSION …every Saturday from 2:30PM until 3:30PM, confessions are heard. We also offer the Parish Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to Easter and Christmas as announced.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK

…is not only a sacrament for those who are at the point of death. As soon as one of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him/her to receive this Sacrament has certainly already arrived. Therefore, any member of the faithful who is seriously ill because of sickness or advanced age, may request this Sacrament by calling the Parish Office. Once a year, we offer The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick within a weekend Mass as announced.
