Dellview Baptist Church New & Views Monthly Newsletter | January 2020 dellviewbaptistchurch.org It’s hard to believe that it’s almost Christmas, but it is. Hopefully our thoughts reflect on the true meaning of Christmas…the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. But what if Jesus had never been born? What if there was no virgin birth? What if there was no baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger? No angels announcing the birth to the shepherds? Imagine the last 2000 years of life on this earth without the influence of the life of Jesus. We can read the book of Acts and see how the life of Jesus affected the first churches. Paul tells us stories of how the life of Jesus affected the churches he started and supported, but what about today? What do we see in our would that would be different had Jesus not been born? One of the first things we would notice would be the absence of many hospitals, colleges and relief organizations, all of which have been started by Christians because of Jesus. As great a problem as poverty and sickness are today, the situation would be far greater had it had not been for Christianity. As great as these losses would be, if Jesus had never been born, we would not have a clear view of God. John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” God came to our little world and became one of us. If I want to know what God is like, all I have to do is look at Jesus. But what the angel told Mary that day has come true, “You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.” (Luke 1:31) Today and every day we celebrate the truth of the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus. He Lives!
