TEAMWORK DOES THE TRICK IN APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

Peg Chiarelli, Manager of Applications Development for Manufacturing, Quality Control & Consulting, Engineering and Programs, admires the people of her unit. "I especially appreciate their professional integrity." Peg said, "Their enthusiasm and will

I ingness to accept challenging assignments almost guarantees success. Everyone has bought into the high performance standards of the unit, and everyone works hard to achieve them. Commitment to common goals has produced a tremendous sharing of knowledge and integration within the unit, within Computer Services and wi th our customers."

Peg's team members have varied backgrounds and outside interests:

MERLE BARLOW Running RON BRUCH Tennis TERRY CUNNINGHAM Community Service JEFF CURRIER Law Enforcement GENE HAFF Barbershop Quartet singing MARGIE HALLMARK Analytical Chemistry JEAN ISEMONGER New home, New Degree EARL KRATZER Oil Painting PAUL MELLI CAN Golf TIM NEMITZ Teaching BOB PORTNER Community Involvement LARRY ROBERTS Raises Shih Tzu dogs RAY SOLTIS Swimming MARLIN STOCKWELL Stock Market Investing DAVE WHITE Science Fiction

Louise Crosby, Manager, Applications Development for Finance, Plant Service, E&CR, and PAO, says of her team, "They take such pride in their work, and they get such a kick out of helping each other and the people we work with, it's no wonder they do such a good job. Time after time, our unit has taken on difficult challenges, and has done whatever was required to fo'11ow through on our commitments. They've never let me down. Because of this track record, 1 really trust my people, and I depend on them one hundred percent."

Outstanding on-the-job performance is usually reflected in the outside interests ofindividuals, and Louise's team is no exception. Ron Broadhurst, for example, is especially proud of the 1953 MG-TD which he has restored. Larry Van Scoy's show quality 1967 Corvette (photos, pg. 3) will be featured in a national magazine this summer, and Liz Dwyer and her husband, Mike, spend most weekends flying to airshows around the country in their home-built aircraft, the Quickie-200 (photo, pg. 2).

Cleve Williams enjoys hunting, fishing and working on his MG, while Peggy Croze is active in her social club. Cindy Mountain describes herself as a humanist. Among other things, she's learning sign language in order to work with the deaf. Jim McClelland plays golf, and Rob Smith enjoys fishing and diving and plans to marry this coming September.

Either a new strain of Florida mosquito or the Quickie Q-200 experimental aircraft built by Liz Dwyer and her husband Mike in their two-car garage. They also have a Vollmer Scout amphibian.

NETWORKING, INTEGRATION &

USER COMPUTING SERVICES

"Our team is made up of individuals who pride themselves in technical excellence and the satisfaction of our clients within the Department", said Richard Reynolds, Manager- Networking, Integration & User Computing Services. "I respect the personal integrity and appreciate the excellent contributions of every player on the team. Together, we have weathered two organizational realignments in the past year without losing our direction or enthusiasm for our work. It is that enthusiasm that makes this organization a great place to work."

Rich's team has a wide range of interests away from the job, with physical fitness activities playing a major role. For example, Borys Stopnytsky enjoys jogging and camping with his family, while Rick Perry and Jim Roth play tennis and basketball. Kevin Doel is an ultra-distance triathlete, and Sandy Peterson enjoys boating. Sandy dreams about living in a glass house in the woods, with a giraffe in the back yard and a seal in the pool. Tom Gill enjoys softball with his church team, and marathon commuting from Spring Hill. Real estate investing interests Al Lelekacs and Frank Stegmaier, although some of Frank's ventures should be considered urban renewal projects. Diane Bernstein, a real movie buff, is also involved in synagogue activities. Don Pinnell enjoys fishing and playing the banjo.

Ron Broadhurst, Applications Development Systems Analyst, takes a lot of pride in his prize-winning 1953 MG-TD, which he has restored from the ground up. Beautiful car, Ron.

DATA PROCESSING SUPPORT

Dave Turner, Manager - Data Processing Support, said, "Teamwork is what makes it all possible. We focus on quality service to our customers, and we all work together to make it happen. We've seen a lot of changes in the Central Computer Facility, on schedule, with minimum inconvenience to our customers. I appreciate all the extra effort that everyone has put in to get the job done."

Away from the job, Tom Maye and Donna Jo Fontana are campers. Jim Althoff and Kelly Wiseman are active in amateur baseball programs, and Ron Tanfield bowls. Helen Varecha enjoys cycling and dancing, and Bobbie Tampa enjoys counselling children. Cliff Stewart is a fisherman, and Paul Favaron plays golf. Carl Elston is on the GE Corporate Relay squad, and Joanne Skrupski gardens.

Larry Van Scoy, Applications Development, has thousands of hours invested in his beautiful '67 Corvette, and it shows. Larry's car will be featured in a national Corvette magazine this summer.

SOFTWARE TECHNIQUES AND DATA BASE

Jack Hofstra, Manager - Software Techniques and Data Base, explained that the people in his unit are responsible for operating system and data baSE management for the large scale IBM and Honeywell mainframe computers at NDD, as well as for several DEC systems. "Their work is critical to the business, since it affects the operation of so many plant-wide information systems," said Jack. "Many of the department standards for computer usage, applications programming and data base design and management were developed by this group, and we're really proud of their efforts."

Jack points out that, since the operation of so many department-wide applications depend upon the efforts ofhi ~ unit, a high level of team spirit and integration is necessary to achieve success. "Fortunately, we all work together like a well-oiled machine," said Jack, "and we're proud ofthe results. "

Some of the interesting sideline activities of the unit are:

MARK WATSON ..... Dieting & Weight loss CHRIS ALFORD .... SCUBA diving DAVE HIRSH ...... Student pnot ANN WHITE ....... Softball injuries STACY PHAM ...... Collects Champagne MAUREEN MEILUS .. Diving ANGE GIAMBRA .... Guitar LARRY GROGAN .... Jogging, Swimming TOM O'BRIEN ..... Physical Fitness
