APPENDIX MEMBERSHIP OF THE NATIONAL PANEL OF SPECIALISTS General 1. The National Panel of Specialists is constituted under regulation 6 of the National Health Service (Appointment of Consultants) (Scotland) Regulations 1993. The National Panel provides members for Consultant Advisory Appointments Committees, also constituted under the 1993 Regulations. 2. The enclosed membership list supersedes that enclosed with NHS HDL(2003)23. 3. The Panel has been structured to ensure that approximately one-quarter of the members retire each year. Retiring members may, however, be re-appointed, subject to any conditions which Scottish Ministers may impose. 4. After retiral from a consultant post, a member of the Panel may complete his or her term of office unless he or she first attains the age of 70 years, at which time membership must cease. Changes to the Panel 5. To assist in maintaining an up-to-date list of members, NHS Trusts and Boards are asked to inform the Scottish Executive Health Department when any Panel member leaves NHS employment for any reason.
