1. Why was the HCV HUB created?

Hepatitis C (HCV) is an increasingly important global public health issue.

The burden of disease, high prevalence rates, impact on patients’ quality of life and overall high cost to society all contribute to the urgency in addressing HCV.

The HCV situation is complex:1

To effectively control and prevent the ongoing HCV epidemic, a comprehensive approach is required: holistic and inclusive of prevention, early intervention, disease management and follow up strategies.

130 - 170 million individuals are chronically

infected worldwide

350,000 - 500,000 deaths occur annually from

HCV worldwide

75% of people are unaware

they are infected

3 – 5% of people infected worldwide receive

treatment each year

1. Why was the HCV HUB created?

It is essential to collaborate, by sharing knowledge and expertise among different key stakeholders, to move forward effectively.

However:

There is an absence of structured databases that store relevant and up-to-date information related to HCV cure and control.

There are few organizations responsible for identifying trends and good practices that are replicable in other environments.

Not all information is published, leaving intervention, implementation and strategy knowledge unavailable for collaboration.

There are few opportunities to share good practices around HCV cure and control interventions and learn from other´s experiences.

2. What is the HCV HUB?

The HCV HUB Planning and Implementation is a knowledge management platform where up-to-date and relevant information about HCV is gathered and centralized online.

The HUB contains a collection of scientific publications, action plans, interventions, case studies, and tools to support you and your organization/community in the planning and implementation of strategies to cure and control HCV.

3. What is the HCV HUB objective?

The overarching aim of the HCV HUB is to promote action toward a world free of HCV by supporting you and your organization/community:

Collect The HCV HUB collects

up-to-date and reputable HCV materials on one platform, reducing the

amount of time you spend searching for

information!

Connect The HUB connects you

with the global HCV community!

Learn The HUB facilitates HCV knowledge exchange, allowing you to learn

from the best international experiences!

3. The HCV HUB offers the opportunity to

Collect

Access up-to-date and relevant information in one single centralized website. Only the latest, accurate and reliable resources are included.

Find information from different key stakeholders (policy makers, payers, community agents, researchers, patient associations) in the cure and control of HCV.

Search quickly and effectively. Information is organized, analyzed and summarized to help you scan the key messages.

3. The HCV HUB offers the opportunity to

Connect

Understand what members of the global HCV community are doing.

Identify potential partners and opportunities to collaborate.

Showcase good practices and drive change.

Raise awareness of specific resources through your social network.

3. The HCV HUB offers the opportunity to

Learn

Explore the big picture and also understand the HCV context in more depth.

Benefit from the ongoing exchange of reputable HCV knowledge from both published and unpublished sources.

Learn how other local, national, and global organizations are addressing HCV.

Contribute to improving the knowledge and capacity of the global HCV community.

4. How is the content organized in the HCV HUB?

Content is collected by a variety of experts who…

6. Why is the HCV HUB interesting for patient associations?

The HUB supports patient associations in the development, implementation and improvement of HCV cure and control plans and interventions

The HUB can also support patient associations at any stage of their journey by providing resources to promote action and collaboration

There is a unique window of opportunity to work collaboratively to create plans and interventions to cure and control HCV

More needs to be done to remove significant barriers to access HCV treatment and care, but governments can’t solve it alone

Patient associations play a key role in advocating for national HCV action plans and supporting new models of HCV care delivery

There is a paradigm shift in HCV management

Disease awareness has grown significantly

New diagnostic tools, drugs, and guidelines are available

More HCV-specific strategies and plans are being developed and implemented
