HAZARDOUS AREA WIRING INITIAL TRAINING This course is a nationally recognised course intended for electrical workers, technicians and engineers involved with installing and maintaining electrical equipment in hazardous areas. It covers the principles of hazardous area classification, explosion protection techniques, equipment installation requirements, inspections, and procedures for breakdowns and maintenance, with theory and practical components.

The skills and knowledge described in this training course require a license to practice in the workplace for undertaking electrical work as required by the various state and territory electricity safety acts and associated regulations. Prerequisites: Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, Certificate III in Instrumentation & Control, Certificate III in Engineering Production Control (with Unit MEM07001B) or Certificate III in Process Plant Operations (with Unit PMAOPS201B) or equivalent for award of Statement of Attainment. Apprentice electricians or candidates with tertiary electrical qualifications are eligible for award of Statement of Completion.

Hazardous Area Initial Training for the following competencies at Certificate IV:

UEENEEM080A - Report on the integrity of explosion-protected

equipment in hazardous areas.

UEENEEM019A/20A/21A/22A - Attend to breakdowns in hazardous areas.

UEENEEM023A/24A/25A/26A - Install explosion-protected equipment and

wiring systems.

UEENEEM027A/28A/29A/30A - Maintain equipment in hazardous areas.

UEENEEM038A/39A/40A/41A - Conduct testing of Hazardous Areas

installations

UEENEEM042A - Conduct visual inspection of

hazardous areas installations.

UEENEEM043A/44A/45A/46A - Conduct detailed inspection of hazardous

areas installations.

Course Duration: 5 Days

Competency Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course a Statement of

Attainment will be issued.

HAZARDOUS AREA WIRING REFRESHER TRAINING

This refresher course is intended for electrical and non-electrical participants who are required to attend a refresher program for hazardous area competencies already gained. The refresher program is intended to bring current electrical and non-electrical participants who have been previously trained in hazardous areas up to date on any changes to hazardous area standards and legislation. It is recommended that electricians attend a refresher course for relevant hazardous area competencies no less than every two years.

Prerequisites: Prior completion of 5 day initial course

HAZARDOUS AREA WIRING AWARENESS TRAINING

This course is designed for electrical and non-electrical participants. It covers the legislative requirements of hazardous area installations and provides an overview of the relevant standards. It delivers an introduction to explosion-protected equipment and explains how to interpret hazardous area classification drawings and equipment markings. Occupational Health and Safety issues such as toxicity, fatigue management are also covered. Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course. Course Duration: 1 Day Competency Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course a Certificate of

completion will be issued.

BOOKING INFORMATION

All courses require a minimum number of 4 participants for the course to proceed. If there is insufficient number of participants Optec will cancel the course. You will be notified at least 7 days before the course is due to commence if it will be cancelled. Course Enrolment: To confirm your place on one of our Hazardous Area Wiring courses you must complete the ‘Hazardous Area Training course confirmation form’ (see page 7) and return to us ASAP to secure your place on the course. If you wish to pay by credit card you must also complete the ‘Credit Card Authorisation form’ (see page 8). If not paying by credit card you must provide us with a purchase order or cheque payable to Optec Pty Ltd.

PAYMENT WILL BE REQUIRED PRIOR TO ISSUE OF ANY STATEMENTS

A Cancellation Fee will be charged if Optec is not given at least two working days’ notice of Cancellation. The Fee will be the full course cost and any expenses incurred by Optec. PLEASE NOTE: PRICES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE Initial Participant requirement: From the 1st of January, 2015 all course participants completing an Optec training course that will lead to the issue of a National Certificate or a Statement of Attainment will be required to provide Optec with a Unique Student Identifier number (USI).
