  • contentsINTRODUCTION WHAT ARE INDUSTRIAL HAZARDS?GENERAL HAZARDS IN INDUSTRIES a) Fire accidents b) Mechanical c) Electrical d) Chemical and Pharmaceutical E) Dust explosion IMAGES FOR UNDERSTANDING BETTER INDUSTRIAL SAFETYCONCLUSION

  • INTRODUCTION HAZARD is a situation that posses a level of threat to life, health, property or environment INDUSTRIAL HAZARD may be defined as any condition produced by industries that may cause injury or death to personnel or loss of product or property.

  • CAUSES OF INDUSTRIAL HAZARDS Physical --noise, vibration, heat, cold, pressure, radiation, fibers,Chemical flammable/explosive materials, toxics, sensitizing agents.Biological dust , pathogens Psychological work place practices & systems, payment systems

  • GENERAL HAZARDS IN INDUSTRIES FIRE HAZARDS MECHANICAL HAZARDSELECTRICAL HAZARDS CHEMICAL HAZARDS PHARMACEUTICAL HAZARDS RADIATION HAZARDS DUST EXPLOSION

  • FIRE HAZARDS Fire is an exothermic chemical reaction between oxygen and fuel. The effect of fire on people take the form of skin burns

  • SOURCES OF FIRE HAZARDSHot surfaces Combustible and flammable liquids Heat utilization equipments (over heating) Lightening Gas cylinders

  • MECHANICAL HAZARDS It occurs due to: Large number of equipments Crowded work place conditions Frequent interaction between worker and equipment Insecurely fixed machines Failure of SOP

  • ELECTRICAL HAZARDS The most frequent causes of electrical injury/death are:1.Contact with power lines2 Electric shocks and burns due to poor indication facilities3. wiring faults and improperly wired equipments4. Sparking at loose connection

  • CHEMICAL HAZARDSChemical hazards are: - Toxic - Corrosive - Irritant - Carcinogenic - Flammable MutagenicChemical reactions may get out of control due to: -Wrong raw materials -Raw materials with impurities -Changed operating conditions -Time delay -Equipment failure

  • PHARMACEUTICAL HAZARDSSome general health hazards in manufacture of pharmaceuticals include: Dust and noise exposures Exposure to UV radiation Exposure to formaldehyde Repetitive motion disorders

  • DUST EXPLOSIONThe term dust is used if the maximum particle size of the solids in the mixture is 500 mm Dust explosion is a rapid combustion of a dust cloud.Drying, milling and blending operations generate atmospheric and fugitive dust emissions.

  • IMAGES FOR UNDERSTANDING BETTER INDUSTRIAL SAFETYIn all places of employment: passage ways, store rooms and service rooms shall be kept clean and orderly in a sanitary condition. Every structure is required to have load bearing when using for storage.Treads on all stairs shall be reasonably slip resistant.

  • CONCLUSION Review of constructor safety awareness and recommend suitable improvement measures. Systematic training of employees is necessary. In addition, there should be a committee in each department , responsible for safety in their departments.

  • THANK YOU ALL
