Part of the wine matured in French oak. Light gold, with green tints. Nose of peach, grapefruit, white
pepper, wet stone; unusually for Gruner, lemon and grapefruit palate ads a distinct bitterness to it.

LAROCHE’S Les Clos sees 30% oak barrel fermentation and the vines are very old. This has certain
spiceness on the nose and an unctuous peach and apricot ripeness. The palate is flooded with pear
and apple fruit that is silky and ripe with fine length. Balanced by a creamy texture and good acidity.

Very nice nose-complex and aromatic with well judged oak. Good concentration on the palate and
nice definition. Tasty in a rather modern style.

A touch of ginger on the nose. Lots of class but pretty moderate weight, again one could imagine
this filling out though.

Established in 1909 by Joseph Matrot and now run by his grandson Thierry. Lifted, savoury herbal
edge to the nose. Chunky lemon fruit on the palate with some herbal character. Very savoury at the
moment but with potential.

This muscadet is dry and fruity, typical of a Muscadet Sevre et Maine. Light Yellow colour. Very
fresh on the nose, dry but fruity with apple flavour.

Herbaceous, citrus nose with a hint of apple. Fuller and richer on the palate than the nose would
suggest. Almost a tropical fruit flavour with a zingy freshness.

The grapes for this 100% Viognier come from the cool-climate regions of Elgin and Elim, well known

delicate hint of spice. Medium-bodied but with a richness to the palate, common to Viognier, the
wine finishes fresh, again with hints of Oriental spice.

A beautiful deep salmon-pink coloured wine with loads of fresh summer-fruit flavours and lively
acidity. Made in a medium style to appeal to a wide range of tastes.
57 Sancerre Rose, Domaine de Terres Blanches, France, 2012 £43.95
The Pinot Noir grapes for this amber rosé are grown in vineyards mainly in the district of Bué, the
terroirs are described as ‘caillotes’, hard limestone, and ‘terres blanches’, white stones. The juice for
the wine is obtained by direct cold pressing. This is clarified by static settling and fermented at low
temperature in temperature-controlled vats. This rosé then undergoes a few months ageing in vat to
keep its fruity character. Amber in colour, with flamingo-pink highlights; it shows redcurrant and
berry fruit on the nose and a finessed, drawn-out finish.
Dessert Wines
59 Muscat De Rivesaltes, Els Pyreneus, 50cl, 2015 £28.95
Brilliant yellow colour, intense, fresh nose with spicy grape aromas and hints of roses. On the palate
the sweetness of summer fruits is beautifully balanced of natural acidity.
60 Béres Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos, 50cl, 2008 £65.95
Tokaji, the great sweet wine of Hungary (the name coming from the Tokaj-Hegyalja region) is made
predominantly using the Furmint grape variety. In 1730, long before classification systems were
employed in Portugal and France to guarantee the wines pedigree, they were instigated in Hungary
specifically for this regal wine. The wine spends two years maturing in oak barrels; it is incredibly
sweet, with around 150 g/l residual sugar, flavours of dried apricot, fig and lime sit alongside a
fabulous balancing acidity that leaves the palate refreshed.

Very Intense aromas here, especially notes of red fruits and cassis. Herbal notes like rosemary,
together with notes of vanilla and caramel give complexity to the wine. Important structure and
aromatic persistence this wine stands out for its intense fruity taste. Soft and mature tannins give
the wine its sweet and fruity structure.

tannins and a ling, fresh finish.

An expressive nose here, with ripe dark cherry fruit. This has classic masculine Gruaud on the palate,
with a very firm core of tannins running through a more supple near seamless presence of fruit. It
has decent acidity too.

82 Chateau Langoa Barton, Saint Julien, 1997 £189.50
Mature ruby-garnet, some bricking at the rim, sweet, cedary nose, showing maturity. A cool leafy
note, attractive red and dark berry fruit, lacking a little in concentration, though plenty of flavour,
fresh, slightly piquant acidity, soft tannins at the finish.
85 Chateau Talbot 4em Cru Classe, St Julien, 1995 £265.50
On a regular flawless Talbot expressed very elegantly the complexity of its terroir, its round and firm
tannins give it a sweetness that is found over the vintages. Its concentration allows a long ageing,
although it is often tempting to young, to enjoy the fullness of its fruit and silky character. A
beautiful classic Saint-Julien, deep and harmonious.
86 Chateau Palmer, 1er Grand Cru, Margaux, 1983 £590.00
Deep red/brown colour with a fading rim. Spicy, mineralic nose with some savoury herbal
complexity. The palate is nicely evolved with firm, mineralic, earthy character.
87 Chateau Latour, 1er Cru Classe, Pauillac, 1982 £2,250.00
Dark in colour the nose on this wine at first has a new world quality with very ripe, dark fruit tinged
with new oak. This changes quickly to show classic Pauillac notes of cedar, pencil shavings and
underbrush. The palate is that of a large wine that is just a touch austere, tension between power
and grace. The finish is long and has an iron and mineral quality.
Burgundy Red

This wine is elegant and delicate, with aromas of red fruits and flavours of ripe black fruits and
cherries. The tannins are noticeable but well incorporated into the body of the wine.

Delicious and full bodied, concentrated black cherry and currant fruit layered with smoke, tobacco
and wet earth. Full Complex finish.
92 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru, Domaine Geantet-Pansi’ot, 2000 £290.50
A generous and distinctive wine, often superb. The colour is intense and bright. On the nose, the
first impression that arises is that of cherry, then woody and fine spicy aromas appear, with an
elegant hint of musk in some vintages. The flavours are extraordinary in their richness and harmony,
neither too rough nor too heavy. The architecture of the wine is held up by fine and noble tannins,
giving the body a silky texture (called “gras”). Acidity brings energy and liveliness to the whole, the
after taste is a pure delight.

Rhone Valley
95 Cotes du Rhone, Saint Cosme, 2016 £32.95
This 100 per cent syrah from the Gigondas area has deep colour and a spicy, earthy, graphite violet
aroma and dark cherry, with little or no oak influence. Full, round palate with flesh and fruit
sweetness, finishing with gently drying tannin.
97 Gigondas, La Bastide Saint Vincent, 2014 £54.95
Attractive nose of myrtle and hints of briary. The palate is savoury, with a flow of red berry fruit, and
mild tannin.
98 Chateauneuf du Pape, Domaine des Sénéchaux, 2013 £75.95
A full-bodied, peppery, garrigue-dominated effort with loads of blackcurrant and cherry fruit. There
is no evidence of new oak but it possesses plenty of glycerine along with low acidity. Complex!

The 2001 Ermitage Le pavillon exhibits a saturated ruby/purple colour as well as a sweet nose
of capphor,ink,crème de cassis and hints of liquorice and smoke.A great and intence wine.

Soft and supple with red fruit flavours, a hint of violets, and a smooth finish.

Centred around the village of the same name, the region of Barolo produces big, well-structured reds
with a racy cut to the tannins. After a long maceration the wine is aged for three years, two in large
oak barrels. Intensely elegant nose, with red fruit and spicy notes of liquorice and vanilla; the palate
is austere with smooth tannins and a freshness to the finish.

A richer Chianti with ripe concentrated flavours made from 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5%
Cabernet. The wine is matured in French oak barriques for six months and then in large oak barrels
for a further nine months; this combination of modern and traditional ageing provides a balanced
structure showing both fruit and notes of oak. Enticingly sweet, ripe fruit on the nose; the palate
shows concentrated black cherries with rich, almost opulent tannins. A velvety wine with great
complexity.
