With two miles of trails, as well as open spaces and scenic rest areas, the Luray

Hawksbill Greenway is an inviting place to enjoy some peace and quiet, watch the wildlife along the creek, or go walking or jogging.

The Greenway accommodates a wide range of everyday activities, including:

• Bird-watching• Picnicking• Fishing• Frisbee• Bicycling• Rollerblading• Walking, Running and Jogging• Quiet meditation• Pet exercise

Anglers enjoy fly fishing in Hawksbill Creek, which is home to many of the Shenandoah’s 37 fish species, including game fish such as Trout, Smallmouth Bass and Bluegill. Offering Catego-ry “A” trout fishing, the creek is stocked October through April one or two times per month.

The Hawksbill Greenway – Luray, VirginiaThe Hawksbill Greenway is part of the Daughter of the Stars Loop

in the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries Birding & Wildlife Trail. The Greenway combines a lush habitat for birds, butterflies, trout and other wildlife with urban amenities, including:

• A two mile, 10-foot-wide, paved walking and biking trail that is ADA-Compliant / handicapped accessible

• Six convenient parking areas• Two modern restrooms• Four drinking fountains• Trailside benches• Picnic tables

While on the trail, residents and tourists are only steps away from Luray’s downtown area – with its historic homes, restaurants, Farmers’ Market, shops, government buildings, library, galleries, and restored train depot – or its quaint residential neighborhoods.

The trail provides a safe setting for walkers and bikers who use the trail for many health benefits. It has become a gathering place in the community for a variety of activities.

Schools bring their students on field trips to the Greenway to learn about a variety of science and environmental subjects. And, the stu-dents have fun as well.

The Hawksbill Greenway Foundation was set up to help enhance and maintain Luray’s award-winning Greenway as well as other park land. We hope you will want to help support our preservation efforts on be-half of the entire park system.
