rip the flesh of their prey which include

rats , other birds and fish.

Hawks must have sharp and strong talons so that they can dig them into their prey to kill them,carry them and to grab onto tree branches and rocks to maintain balance. This is important because most of them live in high places such as HDB rooftops and high in the mountains.
