Who Are WeWelcome to our 2013 Collection. I hope you enjoy looking at our range of carefully crafted styles and colours – in my opinion our best yet! While you peruse these pages and appreciate the quality and design of our clothing, I invite you to join us on our journey towards sustainability.

As I write this, Mantis World has just been announced as the Source Award winner for Best Sustainable Supplier by the Ethical Fashion Forum. We are delighted to have won, and this accolade makes us more determined to continue to push ourselves and our industry to do things the way we all know they should be done. Every time we are faced with a difficult commercial decision, we go back to our ethos of “Well Made”. Will we compromise the quality, the design or the ethics of our production for a cheaper price or a faster delivery time? Suddenly our decision-making becomes easier when we ask – will it be Well Made?

For over a decade we have been at the forefront of the ethical cotton industry and advocates of production in Africa. We have reached a tipping point and as more businesses realise sustainability is an essential part of their business model, we are seeing real change.

So 13 years on from our start, where’s next on our journey towards sustainability? This is our promise:

• To increase our use of sustainable fibres year on year

• To only work with mills who have ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant)

• To avoid Uzbek cotton anywhere in our supply chain

• To work with reputable factories holding appropriate certification whom we have visited personally

• To keep researching more sustainable options for manufacture

• To educate and inform our industry

Mantis World’s mark to identify 100% organic garments: accredited as organic

from the raw cotton fibre through manufacturing and production to dispatch

of finished garments.

Mantis World’s key factories work with the SA8000® standard. SA8000 is one of the most stringent codes of social

compliance and supports sustainable implementation of policies and

procedures including the calculation of a living wage. Mantis World encourage

all suppliers to attain SA8000

The Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) – a non-profit organisation dedicated

to the improvement of working conditions in the supply chain, with factories audited

against the BSCI base code. Mantis World works with factories that are BSCI compliant or equivalent as an acceptable

level of compliance.

The GOTS® (Global Organic Textile Standard) is a guarantee of the organic status of textiles; from the harvesting of raw cotton to dispatch of the finished garments whilst ensuring all is done

in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.

All our fabrics are tested and verified using the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 to ensure no harmful substances or dyes

are used at any stage of production or left as a residue on the fabric. Our Babywear also holds ‘Class

1’ certification verifying that it has passed the most stringent safety tests.

Of the common social standards, the content of the WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production )

code of conduct is the weakest and least strict on several issues. Although

better than no code at all, Mantis World will only work with WRAP approved factories if they have a clear plan to move onto more robust standards

within a year.

Our Made in Africa logo is exclusive to styles that are made entirely in our

partner factory in Tanzania, East Africa: from cotton to

finished garment.

Tear-off neck label A neutral label in the back neck of each garment features size and style reference only, and can be easily torn away to leave tag-less back neck area. The wash care label has been designed to allow customers to cut off the Mantis World logo if required
