To our dearest sponsors, donors and volunteers,
The Filipino Music Artists in Japan (FMAJ) wishes to thank you for giving us an
opportunity to be able to help the victims of the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami tragedy thru
the Hawak Kamay charity concert held last May 29, 2011. It could not have been possible
without your help - our sponsors, donors, cooperating groups and performers.
Your willingness, commitment and unconditional support to this event were really a big
help that reached out not only the heart of every victim but also touched their souls. No
word is enough to express our heartfelt gratitude to you.
We are looking forward to your continued untiring support to our future projects for a noble
and worthy cause. More power to you and God Bless!
Sincerely yours, FMAJ Execom

Executive Summary The Filipino Music Artists in Japan (FMAJ) spearheaded the initiative and organized the Hawak Kamay charity concert which was held on May 29, 2011 (Sunday) at Epoch Nakahara Hall in Kawasaki City. The primary aim of the concert was not only to raise funds for the 3.11 earthquake and tsunami victims in Tohoku region but also to give all Filipinos around Tokyo area an opportunity to show our host country Japan and its citizens our sympathy and care during this time of crisis. Along with the FMAJ ExeCom members, there were around 17 solo and band performers who whole-heartedly contributed their time and talent for this worthy cause. There were also around 19 Filipino organizations that had expressed their cooperation by volunteering and heading several working committees during the day of event; and also helped drive the sales of the raffle/donation tickets. Some of these cooperating groups did also make some donations in form like foods, drinks and raffle prizes. Despite of the bad weather on the day of the event, the audience peaked to around more or less 600 people and concluded successfully with very positive feedbacks and praises received from both the audience and staffs.
The Performance The program flow was planned to firstly set the solo performances ahead of the band performers due to venue’s sound restriction for the afternoon timeframe. The first set of solo performers entertained the crowd right after the introductory messages from the guest speakers and informative campaign of the major sponsor. The second set of performances was made after the post-introduction of the previous performers and a raffle time. Some audiences did not only watch but were already also standing and dancing to the lively beat of the songs. The last part of the show was mostly band performances covering original Filipino music as well as the original songs of the bands. The show was concluded by a community singing of the concert’s theme song entitled “Hawak Kamay” where all performers, staffs, volunteers and sponsors joined the band on-stage holding each other’s hands till the end of the song.

Status Highlights Financial Status Funds for the concert were raised through several sources – sponsorships, donations and ticket sales. Expenses incurred during the preparation/planning and during the day of the event were monitored and minimized so more fund could be allotted to the beneficiaries and necessary activities after the event. The financial summaries are shown in Tables 1-3. Donation to Red Cross The first turn-over was done on June 7, 2011 for the amount of 200k yen and second turn-over of 1M yen donation was made on July 2, 2011. A total of 1.2M yen was turned-over to the Japanese Red Cross Society. Outreach Program to Tohoku The remaining amount of 500k yen was set-aside for the future outreach or visit to our fellow kababayans in the affected areas of Miyagi or Iwate. The outreach will be made in coordination with some contacts in the area to be visited by the group. Activities like mini-concert and food distribution are being planned if feasible considering the availability of a venue in the area. Details will be discussed among the members as well as with other interested groups and volunteers.
