Importance of Community College

The community college system plays a vital, probably irreplaceable role in our society,

communities and our global competitiveness.

Community colleges are and will continue to be the primary source of this education as

demand for individuals with two-year technical degrees grows faster than that for

those with a full university degree.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Community partnerships and collaboration are central to the mission of the College. To keep curricula and requirements current and relevant, the College has invited community leaders in business, industry, and the professions to serve as advisers to provide guidance regarding course content, selection of training equipment, employment needs, and the

effectiveness of different programs.Program advisory councils are formed for each degree program. In addition, the Chancellor of the campus seeks advice from community and business leaders on ways the College can assist in development for the community.

Members of these advisory groups are listed throughout the catalog. Hawaii Community College will expand the walls of the classroom into the larger community for students to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the classroom so they may experience and learn from the challenges of the

workplace and understand and begin to accept the responsibility of being a productive citizen of this community.
