High Health Aquaculture (HHA) is a Hawaii-based shrimp breeding and broodstock (parentstock) supply company. Founded in 1994, HHA was the world’s first commercial company tobreed and supply domesticated Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) shrimp to the global shrimpfarming industry. The use of SPF shrimp has revolutionized the shrimp industry in many ways. The original species of HHA’s SPF shrimp was Penaeus vannamei (Pacific White). In 2000 theworld’s production of shrimp was dominated by Penaeus monodon (Black Tiger) at about 80%of world production, as this was the dominant farmed species throughout Asia. With theadoption and success of SPF vannamei, production of vannamei is estimated at over 85% ofworld farmed shrimp production in 2010. As a direct result of this switch to domesticated SPFvannamei in Asia, world shrimp farming production tripled in total production to 3 MMT. HHAplayed a major role in this revolution and has supplied live SPF broodstock shrimp to 27countries. Over the years, HHA has developed SPF stocks of Penaeus monodon (Black Tiger)and Penaeus stylirostris (Pacific Blue) shrimp species. HHA owns the world’s most diversegenetic collection of domesticated SPF shrimp.
