Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome!

Thanks for joining the Sacred Heart worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the Fourth Sunday of Advent! Your presence and prayerful

participation enrich our Liturgy. May this time gathered in prayer nourish your spirit and strengthen your faith. Last Sunday morning, our Parish community grieved the death of a good friend, Cardinal John P. Foley. In 1962, Cardinal Foley was assigned to Sacred Heart Parish as a newly ordained priest. Although he only stayed one year as Parochial Vicar, Cardinal Foley returned on weekends for more than twenty years to celebrate Mass. As a Parish community, you nurtured his priestly ministry and he was forever grateful. Many of you called him friend. You celebrated with him, in our Church, his 40th Anniversary of Priesthood in 2002. Cardinal Foley honored us by preaching our Parish’s 75th Anniversary in 2003. I found him to be a gracious, gentle and faith-filled priest. He last visited our parish to celebrate Christmas Day in 2009. I remember after Mass, Cardinal Foley mentioned he hadn’t eaten. Fr. O’Donnell got some coffee. I raided the kitchen for some food. It was a simple meal, but he was forever grateful, mentioning it each time we saw him. Since the 11:30am Liturgy Christmas 2009 was Cardinal Foley’s last visit, I thought we could remember him in prayer on Christmas Day 2011 at our 11:30am Liturgy. The Mass will be offered for Cardinal Foley. I know it is a busy day, but join us if you can. May he rest in the Peace of the Risen Lord. Peace be with you! God bless, Fr. McKee P.S. Don’t forget our Parish Penance Service on Wednesday at 7:00pm!

O ANTIPHONS On the evening of December 17 the final phase of preparation for Christmas begins with the first of the great "O Antiphons" of Advent. These prayers are seven jewels of liturgical song, one for each day until

Christmas Eve. They seem to sum up all our Advent longing for the Savior. Listen to "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" and recognize the antiphons. The importance of “O Antiphons” is twofold: Each one highlights a title for the Messiah: O Sapientia (O Wisdom), O Adonai (O Lord), O Radix Jesse (O Root of Jesse), O Clavis David (O Key of David), O Oriens (O Rising Sun), O Rex Gentium (O King of the Nations), and O Emmanuel. Each one refers to the prophecy of Isaiah of the coming of the Messiah. The first letters of Sapientia, Adonai, Radix, Clavis, Oriens, Rex, and Emmanuel, provide the Latin words: ERO CRAS . The phrase spells out the response of Christ himself to the heartfelt prayer of his people: "Tomorrow I will be there!"

Come, O Come Emmanuel!” Take a break from shopping and give yourself a gift of time spent in quiet prayer with Jesus, God with Us! present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. Our Eucharistic Chapel is open Monday - Friday 8:00am - 9:00pm.

The Chapel will close early Christmas Eve..

Inspiring Thoughts of the Saints

The coming of Jesus at Bethlehem brought joy to the world and to every human heart. May His coming this Christmas bring to each one of us that peace and joy that He desires to give.”
