A habitat is the immediate environment in which an organism (an animal or plant) lives.Habitats can be big (like a jungle) or small (like a leaf); however, animals need fivethings to survive in their habitat: food, water, air, shelter and a place to raise young.

Directions:
Get creative and use what you have around the house! You could usecardboard, a shoe box, clay, blocks or toy bricks, etc. to build a displayor you could draw it out on paper!
Pick a Habitat
Choose a habitat such as theocean, arctic or forest.
Pick a Medium
Choose the materials to make yourdisplay. Do you want to buildsomething? Would you prefer todraw it out on paper? Be creative!
Research & Build
Include all the animals, plants andfeatures (mountains, lakes, etc.) thatlive in the habitat. Don't forget toinclude the animals' five needs!
No matter where an animallives, it interacts with other
animals and organisms.Discuss with your child whatwould happen if an animal or
organism were removedfrom their habitat.
Parent Tip:
Some animals live successfully in more thanone habitat. What is an adaptation? How does ithelp an animal to survive?
