    Improvement Priorities – The Haughs, Turriff

    September 2015

    Short Term Priorities0-3 years

    1. To set up a management structure for the Haughs comprising localrepresentatives to drive forward various projects for improving theHaughs and securing the required funds.

    2. To monitor existing use of the Haughs to give an idea of currentusage.

    3. To assess the existing infrastructure around the Haughs followingreports of deteriorating bridges and underpass.

    4. To reduce vandalism and the volume of litter around the Haughs.

    5. To have the toilets open all year round, particularly in the wintermonths, even for a reduced period.

    6. To develop the play offer in the play park for younger children and to

    have a variety of play activities for teenagers (list of suggestions inappendix 1) to create a top play park destination.

    7. To consider the re – use of the pavilion and possible conversion intoa social enterprise. Popular suggestions include a shop or café withpossible lease of equipment such as segways and bicycles. Possibleincorporation of the boating pond and lease of pedal boats.

    8. To establish picnic and BBQ areas that will attract additional visitors

    to the town.

    9. To enhance the boating pond, including repairs to the Jetty andconsider a water feature.

    10. To increase the size of the car park to accommodate increase invisitors over and above existing plans to extend in October 2015.

    11. To carry out a planting programme around the Haughs and removalof dead trees and new ones planted.

    Medium Term Priorities3-5 years

    1. To consider the current use of the All Weather facility and its futureuse. Current use is limited and demand for new surface is high.

    Current application lodged with Aberdeenshire Council for transfer tocommunity organisation.

    2. To develop new paths and steps around the Haughs improvingaccess to various parts of the park. (Suggestion to prioritiseimproved steps in the shorter term)

    3. To establish the Haughs as a major outdoor event arena attractingannual events to Turriff in addition to the Turriff Show. (See appendix

    2 for event suggestions)

    4. To replace the seating around the show ring and upgrade the grandstands.

    Long Term Priorities5 years plus

    1. To achieve Green Flag Status for the Haughs, gaining nationalrecognition for the appearance and sustainability of this green space.
