Be aware that most teacher training will only offer one of these. Secondly, our programme ensures you have a single main teacher. Raquel will get to know you and your practice and will understand your strengths and will work with you to overcome your weaknesses. Also, we promise a small group—no more than 16 people in our programmes at any time. Based in central Farnham, we offer purpose built studios and in which you will feel welcomed and comfortable. The Teacher Training Programme

Techniques, training and practiceWe will teach you asanas, pranayamas including various breath techniques and the principles of ratios,

kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation and restorative yoga and its applications. There will be intense

workshops on forward bends, inversions, back bends, twists, standing poses including laterals,

restorative/ yoga nidra and their alignment and contra-indications, including pregnancy, and

adjustments. You will be taught how to teach and practice the techniques as well as a guided practice in

the techniques themselves. You will learn how to plan a 6 week beginner course and you will

understand the principles of Vinyasa/ sequencing and how to apply these to your class plans.

Teaching methodologyThis will include communication skills, how to address the specific needs of individuals and special

populations, principles of demonstration, observation, assisting and adjusting, teaching styles, the

qualities of a teacher and the business aspects of teaching yoga.

Anatomy and physiologyWe will study human physical anatomy and physiology. We will also include the energetic anatomy and

physiology (chakras, nadis etc). We will apply this to yoga practice, including the benefits, contra-

indications and healthy movement patterns.

Yoga history, philosophy, lifestyle and ethicsYoga has a long and varied history, from its roots in ancient India to the present day. We will explore

that history including key texts, yoga sutras, some key concepts of yoga philosophy and how yoga has

grown in the practices we know today. This will include an introduction to Ayurveda. Yoga lifestyle will

be explored such as the precept of non-violence and the ethics of being a yoga teacher.

PracticalYou will be given many opportunities to teach your colleagues as the lead instructor. This will include

assisting and observing others and providing appropriate hands-on adjustments. You will receive and

provide constructive feedback throughout the course.

AssessmentThe course will be assessed in accordance with the requirements of the

Yoga Alliance.

A written paper on a yoga subject of your choice

A beginner course class plan

Open book exam covering the curriculum

Teach classes during the course. There will be an opportunity to cover

classes at The Wellbeing Space once you have your First Aid certificate

and insurance in place. Alternatively you could set up classes with

family and friends.

Observing classes

Your own weekly practice (in classes and at home)

Class observation by qualified teacher

You will be required to teach part of a public class as part of the final

assessment

We will have a Graduation and Celebration day at The Wellbeing Space at

the end of the course (with family and friends!).

held?

The Wellbeing Space, FarnhamThe Wellbeing Space is located in Central Farnham, Surrey. It was an old

barn and was renovated in 2015 to include a mat class studio, a pilates

equipment studio and four therapy rooms.

Farnham is easily accessible from London (50 mins on train from

Waterloo) and the Centre is a short walk from the train station. There is

plenty of parking.

The Centre has a large Waitrose 50 yards away and shops and

restaurants in the immediate location. There is plenty of overnight

accommodation in the town should that be required.

Residential module – Normandy,

FranceThe residential module on 3-6 November will be held at The Mill in Aumale,

Normandy, France. It is located approx. 2 hours from Calais in a beautiful rural

location. The full cost of the residential module is included in the price. This

includes a private coach which will leave from Farnham and take you directly to

The Mill.

Raquel Alves has been

practicing Yoga since she

was 13 years old and is

qualified yoga therapist,

yoga teacher and Body

Work therapist. She has

been teaching Yoga for the

last 30 years.

Raquel is a Para Yoga,

British Wheel of Yoga

(BWY) and Sivananda Yoga

Teacher. She is a Mentor for

Yoga Campus Teacher

training, a Foundation

course teacher and TPOT

observer for BWY.

Yoga Therapy/

Ayurveda

Veronique Gaulthier

Véronique reluctantly joined

her first yoga class in 2000

when she was diagnosed with

a chronic illness. Over the

years, she studied different

styles of yoga (Ashtanga,

Iyengar, Forrest Yoga,

Kundalini, Vinyasa) with

various teachers.

In 2009, she decided to train

as a Vinyasa teacher . In

2013, she spent a few months

in India, at the Paramanand

Institute of Yoga Science &

Research to do an advanced

training in Yoga Therapy.

Anatomy

Orit Huntley

Orit is an Osteopath who

works at The Wellbeing

Space. Orit graduated with

Distinction from the British

College of Osteopathic

Medicine in London,

following a four-year course

for a Masters Degree in

Osteopathy. She has been

working as an Osteopath in

Surrey ever since. Orit is

passionate about exercise of

all forms and recommends

Yoga as an essential

strategy for long term

wellbeing for many of her

patients.

Business of Yoga

Liz Curry-Hyde

Liz is the owner of The Wellbeing

Space. She has run yoga and

pilates studios for the last 5 years

in London and Surrey. She has a

business background, having

spent 20 years in the

management consulting and

banking industries. She remains

a beginner yogi but is uniquely

qualified to ensure the

fundamentals of yoga business

are understood

Pregnancy

Linda Stephens

Linda is a level 2 (500hr) teacher with

Yoga Alliance. She completed her

initial training in 2007 in Sydney, and

has been practicing various styles of

yoga for nearly 20 years. Already

specialising in women’s health, in

2012 she completed a one year post

graduate Pre&Post Natal Yoga

diploma. She has first hand

experience of the benefits of yoga in

birth and is now passionate about

helping other women to prepare for

this life changing event and also repair safely afterwards.

Costs

The cost of the course will be £2995. A £500 non-refundable deposit will

reserve your place with the remainder paid by 15th August 2016. The cost of

the residential module in Normandy France is included in the fee (including all

travel, accommodation and food) .

Additional costs will be the First Aid course should you need that (£60) and a

class observation fee by qualified teacher (around £70). You will also need to

be insured to teach yoga whilst undergoing your training.

Yoga Alliance

The Yoga Alliance is the premier association for Yoga Teachers across the

world. It promotes standards for training and practice which means that the

qualification you are getting is accepted internationally. It also has a vibrant

yoga community and ongoing education programme for Yoga Teachers.

First Aid

It is mandatory that you have an up to date First Aid qualification to be a Yoga

Teacher. We will be running a First Aid course at The Wellbeing Space on

Sunday 23rd of October, which you are welcome to join. The fee for this will be

£60.
