MASS INTENTIONS

The Archdiocese of Detroit’s new coat of arms was unveiled June 3 as part of Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron’s pastoral letter, “Unleash the Gospel.” (The former archdiocesan coat of arms is at the far left, and the newly redesigned seal.) Symbols incorporated into the new crest include St. Anne and her daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary; an open door symbolic of Venerable Solanus Casey — as well as the Church’s need to “go out” and invite others in — and rippling water denoting both the cleansing power of baptism and the geography of the Great Lakes region. To read "Unleash the Gospel", visit http://www.unleashthegospel.org/Source: The Michigan Catholic

JUNE 25, 20175 12TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CHRISTIAN SERVICE [email protected]

WHAT’S IN IT FOR US? by Diane Bucko [email protected]

12th Sunday of Ordinary TimeWe are back to green! The last two Sundays were in Ordinary Time but they are special solemnities that require white as the liturgical color. We will be green until Advent comes again. The First Reading is from the prophet Jeremiah. The poor guy was assaulted on all sides because he delivered God’s message of wrath unless the Israelites changed their faithless ways. But God was with him and protected him. Jeremiah sang, “Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord, for he has rescued the life of the poor from the power of the wicked.”In Romans, Paul explained that sin entered the world because of Adam’s disobedience. God’s plan was humans would be immortal but Adam’s sin brought death to humanity. It is through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross that we are all restored to eternal life. Now that the Easter season is past we return to Matthew, the gospel for this year. Today Jesus is talking to the Twelve. He told them they should not be afraid of those who could kill the body because they could not kill the soul. God knows what is in their hearts, even if they die. Jesus acknowledges before God those who are faithful to him but denies those who do not believe. What’s in it for us? Death is the topic today but it is death wrapped up in faith. Those who die in faith are known to God and given the gift of eternal life. The cause of death is not a detriment to getting into the kingdom. God knows what is in the heart. Knowing that, we should be careful about judging others and deciding who gets in and who is rejected. That is God’s job.

As usual we are in need of volunteers to help work the Blood Drive on Sunday August 6th.

We have three 2 hour shifts, two people per shift. If you can help, please give me a call. The shifts are:

8:00 am – 10:00 am

10:00 am – 12:00 noon

12:00 noon – 2:00 pm

If you can help in any way, please call Tony at the office, Tuesday through Thursday.

If you wish to register to give blood you may do so now by going on line to www.redcrossblood.org and register.

Any and all help is deeply appreciated.

Thank You,

Tony

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!Our Summer Blood Drive is Aug. 6, 2017.

JUNE 25, 20177 12TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL [email protected] DEACON BILL [email protected]

Coronary Cataracts written June 7, 2017I, like many people my age, have just had cataracts removed from both eyes. The surgery was simple and quite quick. The surgery only took about 15 minutes. But, until I had the surgery, I never knew just how bad by vision had become. Commonly, the doctor removes the cataract from one eye (usually the worst) first, then within a couple of weeks, from the other eye (if it is necessary). After the first cataract was removed I was most impressed with the difference it had made in how well I could see in my right eye, and was anxious for the other eye to “catch-up”. The most noticeable difference was in the clearness and brightness of colors I now could see with my new lens implant. When I looked at a white wall with my left eye closed, the wall was bright white. When I closed my right eye, and looked at the same wall under the same light, the wall was quite yellowed (kind of like looking through a nicotine filter). I had never noticed the deterioration in my vision because cataracts are very slow growing (It was over a ten-year period from when my eye doctor first noticed the beginning of cataracts in my eyes and being approved for surgery) and my new “daily normal” was a very slow in developing. As we go through life, our understandings of “right” and “wrong” are constantly being modified, however so slightly, through our experiences and exposures to the world. We gradually become conditioned to ideas, beliefs and attitudes in so very many areas in our lives, that are contrary to Gospel teachings, and the teachings of the Church. For many Christians, Catholic and Protestant, the ideas of “right” and “wrong” has devolved (been reduced to) a strict code of moralism (“right” and “wrong” are to be defined by their adherence to an established set of laws or rules). To a point, this is a healthy point in the social order. [Society is in grave danger when moral values are determined according to the relativism of popular opinion.] A healthy social structure must adhere to a set of principles that are static. Principles that are an anchoring point for all laws and regulations. However, the anchoring point is to be founded on values of love, justice, and mercy. Unfortunately, unlike cataracts in the eyes, the cataracts that obscure, discolor, and distort our senses of evil cannot be physically observed by a doctor looking through a scope, nor removed in any fifteen-minute surgery. We need the grace from God, and the will of faith to understand the Scriptures; to live in the example of Christ. I believe that a most common misunderstanding of God’s opinion of evil, is to consider God’s “lack” of interference as indifference, and not see it as God’s patience for repentance. God’s cure for Israel was his unwavering love and fidelity. The only cure for the evils that plague society is that same patient love of neighbor, and fidelity in faith. But, until we begin to view the worlds of “good” and “evil” through the lens of love and mercy exemplified by Christ, we are continually plagued by coronary cataracts.

A Vincentian prayer for the last week in June: Jesus, give us the grace to share our faith in you with the poor, and to convince them that you care for them. Amen. (from Vincentian Reflections) Many of you have contributed, and we are most grateful. Our request is to those who have not had a chance to aid us in our attempt to keep our food pantry full.

Our food supply is very low.Help us stock the shelves so we can provide food, paper products, toiletries and soaps to Macomb Township Families. The need is tremendous. One reason: There are no school-supplied reduced-cost or free breakfasts and lunches during the summer. Many local children are hungry! If you are able to do so, kindly assist us. Know that the members of your SVDP here at St. Isidore bring your gifts directly to the poor and suffering within our parish boundaries.

FOOD PANTRY$25 Meijer or Kroger gift cards

We REALLY need:**CANNED FRUIT – all – pears, pineapple, peaches, fruit cocktail, applesauce**SPAGHETTIOS & RAVIOLI**SPAGHETTI SAUCE – cans & jars

We also have a BIG need for:*ENSURE*JELL-O*SOUPS – tomato, chicken noodle*CANDY*PUDDING MIX*PUDDING SNACK PACKS*SMALL DISH SOAP*TOILET PAPER

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time In the Gospel today, we hear Jesus say: “Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.”This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to “acknowledge the goodness of the Father” by helping families with food and assistance where desperately needed.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUSCongratulations to the newest member of St. Isidore Knights of Columbus Council # 7200. Ken L. Czarnecki made the first degree at St. Paul of Tarsus Council # 11689 on June 12, 2017.Most new members tell me that they don't know why they waited so long to join the Knights of Columbus. They were probably busy with family, employment, and other events in their life. What most men don't know is that their dues in the Knights go to support the Supreme Council Charities and the Michigan State Council Charities, Holy Cross Children's Services being the biggest recipient. Now that doesn't take up much of their time. For information contact Ronald Verellen (586-206-7625).

EVANGELIZATION PRAYERGracious God, Bless all the people of St. Isidore with increased faith and charity. Send the Holy Spirit to renew our hearts and minds that we might become a church dedicated to sharing your “Good News” with others. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

A Summer Opportunity Planned for You Three internationally-known speakers will be in our area this August just for you in the conference, “An Era of Change or a Change of Era?” Pope Francis has challenged us: "One could say that today we are not living an era of change but a change of era.” Our three speakers (Richard Gaillardetz, Ph.D., Margaret Nutting Ralph, Pd.D. and Fr. Howard Gray, SJ, Ph.D.) – each from their own reflection and experience – will help us to explore this reality that Pope Francis has presented to us. The daytime offerings (August 7-9) will take place at St. Isidore Parish, Macomb. For the full schedule and registration information, go to www.wearethechurchconferences.com.

Two evening opportunities (free will offering) will also take place:

“Wrestling with the Faith: The Demands of Mature Discipleship in a Secular Age”with Richard Gaillardetz, Ph.D.

at St. Isidore Parish, Macomb on Monday, August 7th (7:00 pm)

Mature Christian belief has never been more difficult than it is today. This presentation will reflect on the need to find a middle way between facile obedience and casual regard for

the received faith of the church. “Be Not Afraid: I Am With You Always”
