There is something very sacred about silence. Silence connects us. It is where the heartbeat of all of creation — and its life blood and source —
are embraced and where oneness is experienced. When in the presence of an environment that is silent, the worries, tribulations, struggles, and chal-
lenges of life seem to fade away, and we can experience a peaceful whisper. We can call that whisper God. Through the practice of contemplative pray-
er, we can find our way to that inner place of silence even in the midst of great distraction, busyness, and noise. The silence becomes one with us and
grounds us. When we become friends with silence, friends with God, we can hear the gentle whisper of God’s voice saying, “Come, stay here. Trust me
and you will not fall.”

Harvest of Hope Planning
We are now in the second year of our Harvest of Hope Catholic
Community. I am pleased with the vitality of each community, and with
the way we are adjusting to and enjoying each other. I was especially
encouraged by the way members of each community rallied together
this past spring in the livestream mass, in online learning, in building a
common sources of communication, and in sharing resources for the
safe and effective return to worship.
Anyone who is carefully observant would notice that each of the 30
ACCs of our diocese have moved into shape with this summer’s priest
assignment changes. I personally feel positive about the future of Har-
vest of Hope as St. Anthony, St. Benedict, St. Catherine’s Oratory, St.
Martin, Seven Dolors, Holy Family School, and Mother of Mercy Senior
Living. Now we must move forward to make this big engine sustainable
and to encourage a healthy interaction that promotes growth for every-
one and brings about God’s kingdom in our midst. Here are some
things to watch for this year:
Working on our Pastoral Plan—Each Area Catholic Community was
asked to produce a pastoral plan, so that we might envision our
future. Ours has been drafted by our planning council, refined by
our joint staff, and submitted. It has three goals:
Empower lay leaders to actively promote the joy of the
gospel
Continue to grow a strong sense of community and be-
longing
Find areas of efficiency through shared resources for the
sake of promoting vital ministry
Working on the Expectations for all Area Catholic Communities as
formulated by Bishop Kettler and the diocesan planning council—
Our ACC Planning Council will meet Monday, August 10, and a joint
parish council meeting will be held August 27 to address these.
The expectations outlined for all ACCs are:
1. Have a joint bulletin by June 30, 2020
2. Have a Mass schedule that stagers Mass times by June 30, 2020
3. Have a joint pastoral council by June 30, 2021
4. Communicate the plan to the broader Area Catholic Community
5. Include representation on the planning council from a diverse
group of people especially the Hispanic community and young
adults
6. Include at least one goal that is externally focused
7. Work together as one Area Catholic Community
8. Include realistic timelines
Scripture Quote for the Week
A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains
and crushing rocks before the LORD—
but the LORD was not in the wind.
After the wind there was an earthquake—
but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
After the earthquake there was fire—
but the LORD was not in the fire.
After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound.
When he heard this,
Elijah hid his face in his cloak
and went and stood at the entrance of the cave.
