Narrative Report

My principal effort is in teaching and educational leadership with a clinical practice focusing on community cardiology and cardiac imaging. The dominant component of my educational endeavors is in medical student education. In the clinical skills realm I have served both a hospital site director at as the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) Co-site Director of Patient Doctor 2, as well as the overall course director for HMS. Currently, with the roll out of our new “Pathways” curriculum, I am the co-course director for our new clinical skill course, Practice of Medicine. From 2010-1015 I served as the Co-Director of the cardiovascular pathophysiology course for second-year students. On clinical service, I serve as one of the core faculty members for medical students in the inpatient cardiology wards. In 2012, I was elected to the Harvard Medical School Academy and received the Harvard Medical School Charles McCabe Faculty Prize for Excellence in Teaching (Year III&IV). My work as a clinical teacher has led to publications that aim to teach others about clinical cardiology such as case reports and assessment exercises. Department of Anesthesia Grand Rounds on peri-operative evaluation in February 2014. In addition, I advise residents as the Assistant Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at BWH and advise underrepresented minority medical students at HMS as Faculty Assistant Dean of Student Affairs in the Office of Recruitment and Multicultural Affairs. I have been recognized both by HMS and the Northeast Region of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) with mentoring awards for bringing the combined National and Regional LMSA meeting to HMS for the first time in the history of the organization. As Assistant Dean, I have led efforts to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Harvard medical students to create a more welcoming environment for them. I am a clinical cardiologist and imaging specialist, with a focus on Spanish-speaking patients based at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital (BWFH), and affiliated community health centers. I am an active inpatient and outpatient clinician and educator, participating at many levels in medical training. I seek to reach out to a population that has known health disparities in the incidence of cardiovascular disease. As a cardiologist, I am able to train medical students and residents in the art of the physical exam and cardiovascular disease. My clinical contributions involve the outpatient clinic, attending on the inpatient cardiology service, and staffing the echocardiography and stress labs at BWFH.
