HARTLEY WINTNEY FC HISTORY
Hartley Wintney Football Club History Hartley Wintney Football Club was founded in the North Hampshire village of Hartley Wintney in 1897 and played in an area adjacent to the village's golf and cricket clubs, the facilities not quite being up to today's standard, with only a horse trough or the pond to remove the heavy mud from a sub-standard pitch. The Club's nickname of 'The Row' comes from 'Hartley Row', a former hamlet within Hartley Wintney. In 1953, the club moved to its present ground in Green Lane, known as 'The Memorial Ground'. A pavilion was erected and the team played in the Basingstoke League and, later, in the Aldershot League. In 1973, an influx of players under new manager Glynn Howell put the club firmly on the local football map. In his six year reign, the team won the Aldershot Senior League three times in succession, and the Aldershot Senior Cup. After several seasons in the Aldershot Senior League, Hartley were admitted to the Combined Counties League (previously Surrey Senior League). After the first couple of seasons and two changes of management, the club appointed Ian Bedford, and once again an influx of senior players brought Hartley success. Within his three years in man-agement, they gained trophies including the League Title (1982-1983) and Runners Up (1981-1982), Aldershot Senior Cup Winners (1980-1981), and George Allen Cup Win-ners (1981-1982). They were also Runners Up in the League Cup (1982-1983) and Al-dershot Senior Cup (1981-1982). The club gained promotion from Division One of the Combined Counties League in 2007-08 under manager Mike Scott, but 08-09 began poorly and, despite a change of management, the season ended in relegation by a narrow margin. Under the manage-ment team of Pete Gray and John Condon, the first team rallied in 09-10, finishing 5th in CCL Div 1, and 7th in season 10-11 under manager Louis King after Pete Gray had stepped down for family reasons. The 2011-12 season under manager Neville Roach, Assistant Mick Wollen and Coach Scott Tarr was a notable one for the club as they again achieved promotion to the Com-bined Counties League Premier Division, as well as having a fine FA Cup run that took them to the Third Qualifying Round. However, end-of-season celebrations were damp-ened when the coaching staff left to join Thatcham Town. The entire squad bar two players departed, so new manager Dave Tuttle was faced with the task of rebuilding a squad competitive enough for the CCL Premier. A string of poor results led to a second change in management in less than 4 months, with 24 year-old ex-Hartley player, Ben Dillon, given his first managerial position already deep into the 2012-13 season. Once again there was an almost total outflow of players from Tuttle's squad, and Ben,
with assistants Jason Minton and Joe Lawler, set about rebuilding the squad, but by
this time with Hartley set well adrift at the bottom of the table. The introduction of a
talented group of players restored the spirit around the club, and in what became
known as the club's 'Great Escape' season, Hartley Wintney's place in the CCL Premier
was secured against all the odds after a truly remarkable second half of the season.
HARTLEY WINTNEY FC HISTORY
Ben further strengthened the squad for 2013-14, with Steve Saunders and player/coach Dan Brownlie brought in to the coaching setup alongside Jason and Joe. The season started well and there were notable wins in the FA Cup on a run that took the club to the 4th Qualifying Round for the first time in its history. The cup run took its toll on league form but the club finished a creditable 7th in the Premier Division.
After a comfortable 9th place finish in 2014-15, Ben Dillon stepped down and Dan Brownlie and Anthony Millerick were appointed Joint First Team Managers, alongside coaches Joe Lawler and Luke Tuffs. With strong additions to the playing squad, it was an eventful 2015-16 season. After a memorable 1-0 win away at Southern League Mer-thyr Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, Hartley took Conference South Eastbourne Borough to the wire, losing out to an injury time winner. In the FA Vase, a longstanding club record was broken by reaching the 5th Round Proper played in front of a sell-out 1,300 at Green Lane against the eventual finalists, Hereford FC. And de-spite the cup commitments, the club topped the CCL Premier Division for most of the season and claimed the 2015-16 league title. Promotion, however, was denied due to ground grading issues. Faced with huge challenges on and off the pitch - to achieve back-to-back title wins and put in place the necessary ground improvements to take advantage of any second op-portunity for promotion - the 2016-17 season was perhaps the club's best yet, topping the Combined Counties League Premier Division for the entire season, reaching the semi-finals of the Hampshire senior county cup and the final of the Aldershot Senior Cup, and securing the required ground grading to allow the club to take its place in The Evo-Stik (Southern) League South; the first time in its history that the club has made it to Step 4 of the English football pyramid. To top off a wonderful 2016-17 season, our young Youth team won the Hampshire FA Youth Midweek Floodlit Cup, winning on penalties against a strong Aldershot Town U18. Hartley Wintney FC has come a long way, from 'village side' in every sense of the term, to today's 7 days a week modern football club. The football club has established a clear line of progression for young players with the establishment of an U18 Youth setup, currently playing in the Allied Counties Youth League, a Reserve team playing in the Suburban League, and an A Team playing in the Aldershot & District Football League. Last weekend we recorded a fine 5-1 win at
home against high flying Moneyfields. We were
undoubtedly helped by their ill discipline and an
early sending off. That said we did well to keep
our shape and to take advantage of the extra
man. I thought it was an impressive team per-
formance with a number of stand out individu-
als. The Man of the Match award which was
chosen by Jenny Jackson, guest of our match
day sponsor Hart Taxi’s was Paul Hodges.
At the time of writing the weather God’s are
doing a Hereford on us. I say this as the Hereford
game was marred by inclement weather. Fingers
crossed that this is not the case today. Doubtless
we have come a long way in improving our facili-
ties but there are certainly other areas which
can be improved. Your support for the football
team is fantastic. Please also support the club
house. We are open in the week so why not pop
in and watch the football on the big screen?
We run events and this Sunday we have our
Christmas Raffle. Have you bought your tickets
yet? There’s still time.
As always please get behind the boys today on
this historic day for Hartley Wintney FC. Your
support is greatly appreciated.

MILLERS MUSINGS
Firstly, a warm welcome to Hartley to Neil Smith, all his squad, staff and all of the Bromley faithful. We hope you enjoy your visit to our fine village and have a safe journey home. Another season, another massive game here at Green Lane and another oppor-tunity to test ourselves against a team from a higher level. This season we have already scalped some big teams in the FA competitions but make no mis-take, this is our biggest challenge yet against possi-bly the top ranked team that has ever visited this club. Today presents an opportunity for this player group to see just how good it is and how good it can be when pushed. We should have a full squad today and I can't remember a time we were outclassed with all our players pre-sent, including pre-season against higher opposition. Today won't solely be about ability, we'll need 14 brave players to cross the line with a dogged, determined attitude and not afraid to express themselves with the ball. We've played some excellent football at
times this season, possibly the best pass-ing football in the years that we've been in charge and that will be put to the test to-day. Bromley will be well drilled, organised and will be briefed on ways to impose their game on us and expose our weaknesses, we will have to identify that and be fluid in our approach. The difference in league stature is similar
to when we went to Eastbourne Borough as a step 5 side, I recall we did well on that day! In all the big games we've played, both home and away, my only gripe is occasionally we show too much respect to our opposition for the early parts of the game. We did it against Here-ford, 60 minutes against
Eastbourne and the same against Basing-stoke. We are a very good group with bags of ability, we have nothing to fear here today except not showcasing what we are good at! I hope you all enjoy today and for those making their first trip to Hartley, we'd love to see you return and support the boys. Up the Row!
TUFFS TALKING
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Bromley FC. Well what an exciting day this is going to be! The boys have been rewarded for an ex-cellent cup run with a Home draw against a side riding high in the Conference Na-tional. Bromley will obviously be an excellent side, arguably the best we’ve ever wel-comed to our home, but maybe the envi-ronment will be slightly alien to them and even up the playing field slightly! The carrot for the winners isn’t just £6,000 but a place in the 2nd round prop-er, just 4 wins from Wembley. As Millers said, today is a freebie so to speak, but we all know the boys will do their best to pick this carrot and eat it. Last week we beat Moneyfields to push
ourselves back into a play-off position in the Evo-Stick South East. After a close first half I felt we blew them away in the sec-ond. Moneyfields were clearly a good side but going down to 10 men so early won’t have helped their cause. I felt we moved the Ball very well after this and they weren’t mobile enough to keep up which led to their undoing. Enjoy today, and whatever the outcome i know our supporters will be right behind the lads and have a great time! See you all in the bar! Tuffs 1st Team Head Coach
Walton & Hersham 1 Hartley Wintney Youth 1 (Walton win on penalties) The Youth bowed out of the League Cup
on penalties against a good footballing
Walton side. Full time was 1-1 after they
had taken the lead on 55 minutes and Rory
Williams had equalised on 70. I felt Walton
shaded possession but we had the better
chances which can often be the way. On
penalties the boys were brave but alas not
to be.The positive is though that is now
just 1 defeat in their last 7 over the course
of 90 minutes which of course you have to
give credit for. So well done lads, onto
Thatcham Town in the league next week.
South, East Round-Up
Beaconsfield Town took advantage of AFC Rushden & Diamonds and AFC Dunstable`s inactivity on Saturday to move into second place in the Evo-Stik League South, East table, two points behind Diamonds. The Rams won 2-0 at Short Lane against Ash-ford Town (Middx) with goals from Bajram Pashaj after 56 minutes and Goldy Capela in the 69th minute. Cambridge City moved to fourth, a point behind Beaconsfield, after hammering mid-table Uxbridge 5-1 at St Ives. Having beat-en Aylesbury United 6-1 seven days earlier, City are looking dangerous for the top three The visitors, who in-flicted a first defeat of the season on Moneyfields last weekend, found themselves 2-0 down at half-time after goals from Jack Vasey after 37 minutes and Ryan Sharman 5 minutes later. Recent re-cruit James Hall added a third on 54 minutes, Sharman his second on 71 minutes and City`s newest signing, Ben Seymour-Shove, added a fifth 10 minutes from time after Anthony Thomas had scored a consolation for the Reds. As for Moneyfields, they seem to be im-ploding and were down to ten-men early on before going down to a 5-1 defeat at fellow newcomers Hartley Wintney. It was 1-1 at the break with Rowan Vine for the home side and Steve Hutchings` penalty for Moneys. But the ten-men were put to the sword in the second half as Paul Hodg-es, Josh Webb and Vine again added to Hartley`s tally and move them into sixth, a place below Moneys, three points behind with a game in hand. Kempston Rovers are level on points with Hartley Wintney in seventh after a 4-1 der-
by win over fourth-bottom Barton Rovers at Hillgrounds. Sam Johnson gave the Wal-nut Boys the lead on the half-hour mark, only for Andrew Phillips to pull Barton lev-el 5 minutes later. Jake Newman bagged a brace on 43 and 61 minutes to put the home side in control and Josh Crawley made the points safe with number four in the 81st minute. Chalfont St Peter skipped above Hayes & Yeading United into eighth place after win-ning 2-1 at the SKYEx Community Stadium. Alex Paine after 23 minutes and Victor Osobu 6 minutes later had the Saints in
command, with Ismael Ehui eventually reducing the defi-cit 10 minutes from time. Bottom-markers Arlesey Town put up a battle at home
to Egham Town before going down 3-2. Henry Musay gave the hosts a 12th minute lead, but a Marcus Mealing brace on 26 and 64 minutes put the Sarnies ahead and Mitch Wiseman made it 3-1 with 13 minutes remaining. But Nathan Fowler pulled one back in the 82nd minute to make it a nervy finale. Ryan Auger`s goal 17 minutes from time
settled the game between Bedford Town
and second-bottom Hanwell Town at the
New Eyrie, while Thame United won the
other remaining game 4-0 at home against
Fleet Town. James McGowan gave the
home side an early 9th minute lead that
Luke Ricketts doubled after 16 minutes and
Lynton Goss took them into the break 3-0
up with a third a minute before the whis-
tle. Top scorer Dan West added a fourth
just past the hour-mark.
South, West Round-Up
Taunton Town issued a statement of intent in the Evo-Stik League South, West on Sat-urday by beating fellow promotion favour-ites Salisbury FC 4-1 at the Viridor Stadium, and with second-placed Bristol Manor Farm suffering a 3-2 home defeat to now fourth-placed AFC Totton, the Peacocks hold a ten-point lead at the top of the ta-ble – and with games in hand too. Taunton’s only defeat in the league this season was a 4-1 loss to Yate Town in late September, but in front of a crowd of 630, they took control of this one with two goals in the opening 18 minutes from Dan Sullivan and Matt Buse. Buse scored again after 35 minutes and 3 minutes after the break, Matt Wright made it game over with Taun-ton`s fourth, with Owen Howe`s penalty on 58 minutes being all the Whites could mus-ter in reply. AFC Totton pulled off a terrific result at Bristol Manor Farm. Tony Lee scored twice after 28 and 45 minutes with Craig Feeney adding a belting goal in between on 35 minutes to give the Stags a 3-0 half-time lead. Farm fought back in the second half and pulled two back through Jordan Metters after 63 minutes and Kyle Holly`s penalty 8 minutes later, but the Hampshire side had just done enough. After the top two, just three points sepa-rate third-placed Wimborne Town and ninth-placed Didcot Town. Wimborne, AFC Totton, Bideford and Winchester City are all on 33 points. The Magpies beat Kidlington 1-0 at home, thanks to a goal 3 minutes from time from Toby Holmes, while Bideford came back
from 2-0 down at home to Shortwood United to salvage a 2-2 draw. A James Mayne own goal after 10 minutes and a Nick Humphreys effort after 25 minutes had United in control. Ben Seymour pulled one back on the half-hour mark and then grabbed the leveller from the spot 10 minutes from time. Third-bottom Mangotsfield United beat Didcot 2-0 at Cossham Street, courtesy of goals from Jordan Ricketts after 36 minutes and Kane Simpson 10 minutes from the end, while Cirencester Town pulled up to
sixteenth after a 3-1 Corinium Stadium victory over second-bottom Barnstaple Town in which Lloyd Gardner had Ba-rum in front from the 27th
minute. It wasn`t until 7 minutes into the second half that the hosts equalised through Ellis Dunton, but then Ben White-head bagged a brace in the 82nd and 87th minutes to win it for Ciren. Saturday`s only other game saw Paulton
Rovers and Cinderford Town share a 1-1
draw in which Liam Monelle`s 13th minute
opener for Rovers was cancelled out by the
Foresters` Craig Norman just past the hour-
mark.
ONE SIDE OF THE DUGOUT
Good afternoon everybody! We welcome our guests Bromley FC today - not AFC Bromley as the legend John Mot-son states in a video he produced for us. It was a passionate response on our twitter feed from the Bromley faithful so we can only apologise on Motty's behalf! Last Saturday we hosted Moneyfields, the reports we received on them suggested in no uncertain terms that they were big, physical and liked getting in and around the referee. It's fair to say the reports were amazingly accurate. I don't hide behind the fact that them being reduced to ten men made a big difference to the game, but we still had to show our quality to pick them apart. Millers & I both had complaints regarding previous fixtures that we weren't taking our chances in front of goal - scoring five against what once the the runaway league leaders was a good way to respond. We dealt with their physicality, we moved the ball well and kept it at the right times. Our game management was better than I've seen it in quite some time. This competition (FA Trophy) started back on October 7th when we narrowly beat Slimbridge 1-0 at their place thanks to a Paul Hodges goal on the edge of the box. We then travelled to the much fancied Swindon Supermarine where Rowan Vine debuted scoring in a 3-1 win. We then host-ed higher league Gosport Borough and a crowd of 200+ crowd saw a convincing 3-0
win. The games kept coming and fortunate-ly we didn't run out of legs when we faced local rivals Farnborough FC in a memorable match where we earned a 2-1 win. It's been a long journey in this competition and the joy of it being our debut in the competition has meant that each and every round we've gone through has been a rec-ord breaker for the club. It could look as though I am fondly remembering what has gone before this game because the as-sumption is this is where our story ends, and so it might, but the real reason is to remind ourselves of the effort that has
gone to get us to this posi-tion. An effort that must not be forgotten as we go in to this afternoons game, a re-minder that this game de-serves our absolute every-thing. It's a game that we want to finish with absolute-ly no regrets - we want to enjoy today but that only really comes with our ability to give a true account of our-
selves, sometimes the difference between winning and losing is not giving in. As the spotlight draws over Hartley once again and allows us to showcase what we are about as a club. We hope everybody enjoys the day and that everyone connect-ed with Bromley enjoys their brief stay with us. It's sure to be a good game of football - one in which we are very looking forward to it. Get behind the boys today, get those scarves and hats on - let's see what we can do! #UTR

MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS WHAT THE PAPERS SAY: MONEYFIEDS
Hartley Wintney v Moneyfields. Evo-Stik League South, East Division. Saturday 9th December 2017. Report by David Graham Hartley Wintney posted a big win over a very combative Moneyfields side who played for 84 minutes with just 10 players. It was the visitors who started the brighter and could have been two ahead in the first five minutes. On 3 minutes, Lewis Fen-niemore created space on the right and his cross saw a flick from Sam Pearce bring out a good save from Paul Strudley in the Hart-ley goal. Two minutes later, a cross from Joseph Briggs across the front of the goal saw Ryan Pennery just fail to turn the ball into the net at the back post. After 6 minutes the Money were reduced to ten men when Lewis Fenniemore re-ceived a straight red card for violent con-duct. Referee Daniel Lamport spotted that Rowan Vine was kicked while both were on the ground with the ball nowhere near either player. Despite the man disadvantage it was the visitors who had the next attempt on goal when Ryan Pennery created space for a shot which was held by Paul Strudley. The Row had their first attempt on goal after 18 minutes when Paul Hodges, coming in from the right, drew a save from Steven Mowthorpe in the Money's goal. Two minutes later, good link up play between Jake Baxter and Josh Webb saw the latter’s shot saved by Mowthorpe with his feet. On 23 minutes, a slick passing move from the Row saw Jack French’s strong shot from the edge of the box parried onto the
post by Mowthorpe.Hartley continued to dominate and on 32 minutes took the lead. A corner from Dean Stow was not com-pletely cleared, and when the ball was re-turned into the box by Stow, Paul Hodges set up Rowan Vine to score from just inside the penalty box. (1-0) Hartley were dominating the game but it was the Money who scored the next goal. On 43 minutes, the physical Steve Hutch-ings went down just inside the penalty area after a strong challenge. Hutchings took the penalty kick and scored easily (1-1). Hutchings, who had previously been booked, was lucky to remain on the pitch after a robust challenge on Dean Stow on the stroke of half time. HALF TIME: HARTLEY WINTNEY 1 MONEY-FIELDS 1 The second half started with a chance at either end, with the Row taking the lead. On 46 minutes, a long free kick into the Row area saw a flick on by Brett Poate, and Sam Pearce brought out a good stop from Paul Strudley. A minute later Hartley were in the lead after clever play in midfield in-volving Rowan Vine set Jake Baxter free with a clear run in on goal. The Row striker rounded Mowthorpe before stroking the ball into the empty net (2-1). On 54 minutes, after a spell of pressure, Hartley increased their lead. Good play on the edge of the box by Jack French and Josh Webb saw the former’s shot parried by Mowthorpe, who was then helpless as he watched Paul Hodges following up to head into the net. (3-1).
MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS WHAT THE PAPERS SAY: MONEYFIELDS
On 58 minutes, Joseph Briggs had a good effort for the visitors held by Strudley as they strove to get back into the game. Four minutes later it was the visitors' heads who rose highest to a Briggs corner and the Row were relieved to see the ball knocked off the line for a corner. On 67 minutes, Rowan Vine cleverly set up Jake Baxter who was unlucky to see his effort deflected wide. Three minutes later Baxter was again in for a shot following a good pass from Hodges, but his effort lacked power and was easily saved. The Row made the game safe on 75 minutes with a fourth goal. A sweeping move cre-ated a chance for Paul Hodges, who saw his effort parried by Mowthorpe. Howev-er, Josh Webb, following up, drove the ball into the corner of the net. (4-1) Two minutes from the end, Paul Hodges worked space on the edge of the penalty box and his perfectly weighted pass saw Rowan Vine drive the ball into the net to complete the scoring. (5-1) Man of the Match as chosen my match day sponsor, Hart Taxis, was Paul Hodges. [D Graham] FULL TIME: HARTLEY WINTNEY 5 MONEY-

Comments following the game from the
Hartley coaching staff:
"It was a good win against a very experi-
enced, skilful and physical side," joint
manager Anthony Millerick told David.
"Our performance levels were good and
we kept the ball well."
Fellow joint first team manager, Daniel
Brownlie, added, "We kept good posses-
sion throughout the match against a diffi-
cult team to play against. We are very
pleased with the displays of Callum Eagle,
Joe Paris and Louie Paget, who have all
come in after being out for a few weeks."
First team coach, Luke Tuffs, added,
"During training this week we emphasised
the importance of moving the ball quickly
against Moneyfields. We remained very
mobile from first to last. Now we are all
looking forward to next week and the visit
of Bromley. Cannot wait for the match."
And the Fans said: Hartley v Moaneyfields Post by Mick - 09-12-2017, 20:46 Suffice to say prior to the match reports that The Row were well disciplined and effective. Some of the away fans appeared to not only be in denial but from anoth- er planet! The Portsmouth based Club got exactly what they de-
served from this fixture and could well have had less
than 10 players left on the pitch at the end. Looking forward to David and Kevin's re-
port as always. :-)
MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS BROMLEY HISTORY
Established in 1892,Bromley initially played
in the South London League, before becom-
ing founder members of the Southern
League in 1894, joining Division Two. How-
ever, after finishing bottom of Division Two
in 1895–96 they left to become founder
members of the London League, also joining
Division Two. They won the division at the
first attempt, and were promoted to Divi-
sion One.They switched to the Kent League
for the 1898–99 season, but after finishing
bottom of the league, they returned to Divi-
sion One of the London League. During the
1899–1900 season the club withdrew from
Division One, taking over their reserves'
fixtures in Division Two. They withdrew
from Division Two at the end of the 1900–
01 season.
In 1907 the club were founder members of
the Spartan League and went on to become
its inaugural champions. They joined the
Isthmian League for the following season,
and won back-to-back titles in 1908–09 and
1909–10. In 1910–11 the club won the FA
Amateur Cup, beating Bishop Auckland 1–0
in the final. The season also saw them finish
seventh in 1910–11; the club returned to
the Kent League and were placed in Division
One. They remained in the league until
World War I, but joined the Athenian
League when football resumed in 1919. The
club were Athenian League champions in
1922–23. In 1937–38 they reached the first
round of the FA Cup for the first time. After
beating King's Lynn in the first round, they
lost 4–1 at Scarborough in the second. They
also reached the final of the FA Amateur
Cup again, beating Erith & Belvedere 1–0.
The club repeated the feat the following
season, this time playing Football League
opposition for the first time as they lost 8–1
at Lincoln City in the second round. In 1945–
46 another second round appearance result-
ed in a 4–2 aggregate defeat to Watford. In
1947–48 they held Reading to a 1–1 draw in
the first round, before losing the replay at
Elm Park 3–0. The club won another Atheni-
an League title and the FA Amateur Cup in
1948–49, with the following season seeing
another FA first round defeat, this time 2–1
to Watford. In 1950–51 the club won their
third Athenian League title; the season also
saw them lose 1–0 to Aldershot in the FA
Cup first round. Going straight into the first
round the following season, they lost 3–2 at
Torquay United. In 1952 they rejoined the
Isthmian League, and after finishing as run-
ners-up in their first season back in the
league, they were champions in 1953–54.
They won the league for a fourth time in
1960–61.
After finishing bottom of Division One in
1974–75 Bromley were relegated to Division
Two. In 1976–77 the club appeared in the
FA Cup first round for the first time in over
twenty years, losing 7–0 at Swindon Town.
Division Two became Division One in 1977,
and the club were promoted to the Premier
Division after finishing as runners-up in 1979
–80.
MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS BROMLEY HISTORY
They were relegated to Division One again
in 1984–85, but returned to the Premier
Division as Division One runners-up in
1985–86. Another relegation followed in
1989–90, but was followed by an immedi-
ate return to the Premier Division as Divi-
sion One runners-up in 1990–91. In 1996–
97 they qualified for the FA Cup first
round again, but were beaten 3–1 at
home by Enfield.
Bromley were relegated to Division One
again at the end of the 1998–99 season. A
fourth-place finish in 2004–05 saw them
qualify for the promotion play-offs, and
after defeating Metropolitan Police on
penalties in the semi-finals, they beat
Horsham 3–1 in the final to earn promo-
tion to the Premier Division. In 2006–07
they finished as runners-up in the Premier
Division, again qualifying for the promo-
tion play-offs. A 1–0 win over AFC Wimble-
don in the semi-finals and a victory against
Billericay Town on penalties in the final
saw them promoted to the Conference
South. The season had also seen them
reach the FA Cup first round again, even-
tually losing 4–1 at Gillingham. Further
appearances in the first round were
achieved in 2009–10 (against Colchester
United, 2011–12 (Leyton Orient, 2012–13
(Fleetwood Town) and 2014–15
(Dartford), but they were beaten on each
occasion.
In 2014–15 Bromley won the Conference
South, earning promotion to the renamed
National League,[3] where they have re-
mained since.
Ground: Hayes Lane
The club initially played at the Queens-
mead Recreation Ground, before moving
to Glebe Road. Seven years later they
moved to the Plaistow Cricket Club ground
when Glebe Road was bought for use as
housing. However, the crickets club's
ground was also obtained for housing in
1904, leading to the football club (and the
other sports club using the ground) to
move to a site on Hayes Lane. The new
ground was opened on 3 September 1904.
In 1938 the club moved to the current
Hayes Lane ground. The record attend-
ance of 10,798 was set during a game
against an Nigeria XI in September
1948.The ground currently has a capacity
of 5,000, of which 1,300 is seated and
2,500 is covered.

MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS BROMLEY PEN PICS
Goalkeepers:
1- David Gregory: Gregory, 22, signed for
Bromley after spending a season at Cam-
bridge United in the Sky Bet Football
League. His move away from the Abbey
Stadium provides a new chapter in his play-
ing career after spending loan time at a
number of clubs including Sutton United,
Bishop’s Stortford and Leyton Orient. Greg-
ory began his career at Crystal Palace where
he spent over eleven years with the Eagles
in the midst of the already mentioned loan
spells. Following his release at Crystal Palace
in 2016 he would go on to join up with for-
mer Crystal Palace favourite Shaun Derry at
Cambridge United.
Defenders:
2- Alan Dunne: The vastly experienced Alan
Dunne signed for Bromley last January after
previously playing for Leyton Orient in Sky
Bet League 2. He joined having played over
380 times in a 15-year spell in the first team
for Millwall with a further 10 years being
spent in the youth set up for the Lions.
Dunne not only brings in his playing ability
but has also filled the gap that Steve Lovell
had left as a first team coach. Dunne made
his debut for The Ravens in the 3-1 home
win over Southport last season.
3 - Kristian Campbell: Kristian was originally
part of the Bromley FC academy but the
decision was made to send him out in order
play games to help with his development.
The club kept an eye on the young defender
and he was asked back in at pre-season to
join up with the new look squad. Kristian is
a versatile player and has demonstrated
that through pre-season playing at left-back
and at centre-back. He signed for Bromley
having been at Merstham last season where
he featured live on TV and put in a man of
the match performance when Oxford Unit-
ed were the visitors at Moatside in the FA
Cup. Campbell is currently on a short-term
loan with Bognor Regis.
5 - Ben Chorley: With a professional career
spanning over 15 years, Ben Chorley is cer-
tainly one of the more experienced players
within the Bromley ranks. The 33-year old
started his career in the Arsenal Youth set
up and would win two FA Youth Cups in his
time at Arsenal. With fierce competition for
places at the Premier League Club, Chorley
sought for a move elsewhere and he signed
for Wimbledon in 2003. Chorley’s break-
through season was the 2003/04 campaign
playing regularly for the South-West London
club in their final year before relocation.
Ben stayed with the club following their
move to Milton Keynes and would make 91
appearances before a switch to Tranmere
Rovers. A successful move to Leyton Orient
followed with Chorley becoming an integral
part of the League 1 side. He was made cap-
tain in his second season at the club which
came along-side a goal scoring run, he
would eventually net 9 times for The O’s
over 159 appearances. Moves to Stevenage
and then Portsmouth followed before sign-
ing for Bromley back in August 2015.
BROMLEY PEN PICS MILLERICK’S MUSIINGS
6 - Jack Holland: The club captain has been
an ever present figure in the Bromley team
since his move back to the club in 2013.
Holland started his footballing career at
Bromley in the youth section until he was
scouted and signed by Crystal Palace. Fol-
lowing a couple of loan spells at Eastbourne,
and Farnborough, his next loan move was
back to Bromley. In 2013 he signed a perma-
nent deal with the club and has become
essential to recent success. In his time at
Bromley Jack has played in almost every
position you can name. Predominantly being
considered as a centre-half, Jack has played
at full back and also had a spell up-front two
seasons ago which proved to be a huge suc-
cess with him scoring 6 times. Jack has rep-
resented England C on a number of occa-
sions and scored against Slovakia U23 at
Gander Green Lane last year. Holland al-
ready has two goals to his name this season
and continues to be a driving force in a pro-
gressing Bromley side.
12 – Ben Wynter: Bromley Football Club
signed defender Ben Wynter, 19 years old at
the time, in June 2017 following his release
from Crystal Palace. Wynter played for both
Crystal Palace under 18’s and under-21s and
signed his first professional contract at
Selhurst Park in June 2016 and came on for
Palace in a 3-1 friendly win of Spanish side
Valencia. The club had been watching Ben
for a while when he was at Crystal Pal-
ace and there were attempts at signing the
defender last season. He can play centre
back or at right back, with the aim for him to
develop under the guidance of Alan Dunne
this season.
15 - Dan Johnson: “DJ” made the step-up
from Herne Bay two seasons back and
signed a new deal at Hayes Lane alongside
George Porter in May 2017. The central de-
fender moved on loan to Herne Bay from
Maidstone before making a permanent
switch. He picked up the Players’ player and
supporters’ player of the season awards in
the 2015/16 season at the South Kent side.
16 – Tyrone Sterling: The 29-year-old left
back joined the Club in May 2017 from Do-
ver Athletic having previously played for
both Dartford and Cray Wanderers. Sterling
made over 100 appearances at Crabble for
Dover and was a mainstay in their team
through a three-year period. Tyrone brings a
vast amount of experience to the squad and
will also act as a mentor for the younger
defenders in the side.
19 – Roger Johnson: Johnson signed a short-
term deal with the club in October bolster-
ing the defence with a wealth of experience
at Premier League and Football League lev-
el. Roger has previously played for the likes
of Cardiff City, Wolverhampton Wanderers
and Charlton Athletic.
Midfielders:
4 - Josh Rees: The 23-year-old midfielder
joined Bromley in June 2017 having spent
the 2016/17 season at Vanarama National
League South play-off finalists Chelmsford
City. Josh began his football career at Arse-
nal before joining Nottingham Forest where
he spent time in the National League playing
BROMLEY PEN PICS
for Nuneaton Town and Torquay United.
Rees has already had a storming start to
his career at Bromley scoring three times
through pre-season, as well has scoring
three times already in the National
League.
7 – Iffy Allen: The 23-year-old winger
joined Bromley in May 2017 hav-
ing finished last season at Wrexham. Allen
started his career at the Fulham youth set-
up before signing a first team contract
with Barnet in 2012. Loan moves to King-
stonian, Redhill and Wingate & Finchley
would come during his time with The
Bees. Moves to Yeovil Town, Torquay and
Aldershot would come before spending
2017 with Wrexham in North Wales.
8 – Frankie Raymond: The midfielder be-
came Neil Smith’s ninth summer signing
in July 2017 joining from Dagenham &
Redbridge. Raymond began his career at
Reading in the youth set up and following
his release in 2012 went on to sign for
Gillingham on a short term basis before
joining Eastbourne Borough where he
went on to make over sixty appearances
for The Sports. In 2014 he was signed by
Dagenham & Redbridge for an undisclosed
fee and was loaned back to Eastbourne
Borough for the remainder of the season.
Following his return to The Daggers,
Frankie went on to make over forty-eight
appearances for the club until his release
at the end of the 16/17 season.
11 – Adam Mekki: The 25-year-old winger
joined Bromley in June 2017
from Tranmere Rovers where he spent
two years at Prenton Park. Adam original-
ly came through the youth ranks at Read-
ing and Aldershot Town, signing a profes-
sional contract with The Shots in the sum-
mer of 2009. After leaving Aldershot in
2014, Mekki had spells with Barnet and
Dover Athletic.
14 – Jordan Higgs: Rising through the
Bromley Youth set-up, Jordan Higgs had
been on dual registration with The Ravens
and Carshalton Athletic. Higgs made over
80 appearances for Carshalton and scored
8 goals in his last season at the club. At the
end of season awards Jordan picked up
three awards including Managers Player of
the Season. Higgs made a massive step-up
last season becoming one of the first
names on the teamsheet and would go on
to impress game after game. He also
popped up with a few goals through the
season, including a stunner against East-
leigh towards the back end of the season.
At last season’s awards Higgs cleaned up
winning the Young Player and Player’s
Player of the Year awards after what was a
hugely impressive season for the young
midfielder.
BROMLEY PEN PICS
17 – Luke Wanadio: The 24-year-old attack-
ing winger joined the Club in May 2017 hav-
ing spent last season at Dartford in the Va-
narama National South. Wanadio rejected a
new deal at Princes Park with an ambition to
play in the National League. The winger has
had previous spells at Tooting & Mitcham,
Dulwich Hamlet, Staines Town and Welling
United before moving to Dartford in 2016.
20 – Aidan Enver: The academy midfielder
has become a recognisable name during pre
-season thanks to some standout perfor-
mances. Enver travelled with the squad on a
number of occasions last season and got his
break when he featured against Gateshead
in the last away fixture of the 2016/17 sea-
son. Enver assisted Louis Dennis for his sec-
ond of the match in a 2-0 win.
Strikers:
9 – Brett Williams: The 29-year-old striker
joined in June 2017 having spent the previ-
ous season at Vanarama National League
side Torquay United where his eleven goals
helped the Plainmoor side steer clear of the
drop zone. Williams most prolific spell came
during his two years at Aldershot Town
where the striker scored almost forty goals
for the Shots before joining League Two side
Stevenage. The striker then spent time on
loan at Forest Green Rovers and scored the
winning goal in the play-off semi-final first
leg away win at Dover Athletic. He went on
to start the play-off final in May 2016
against Grimsby Town at Wembley Stadium.
10 – Louis Dennis: Rapid, skilful and an eye
for goal – just some of the ways you can
describe Louis Dennis. Starting off at Dagen-
ham & Redbridge, Dennis made loan moves
to Bedfont, Welling United, Grays Athletic,
Canvey Island and then Hayes & Yeading
before former manager Mark Goldberg
snapped up the young winger. Singing in
Feburary of 2014, Dennis scored on his de-
but in a 3-2 defeat at Dorchester Town.
Since then he has become a hugely im-
portant part of the squad and terrorised
defences in the National League. Neil Smith
has given Dennis a new role seeing him play
in the number 10 position. A hugely impres-
sive pre-season has given everyone the con-
fidence that he can go on and have a fantas-
tic year.
18 – George Porter: Porter started his ca-
reer off at Cray Wanderers gaining a first
team call up after impressing in the youth
sides. A strong run of form interested Ley-
ton Orient who came in for the forward in
2010. A loan move to Lewes followed before
a return to the first team at Brisbane Road.
Porter would score in his FA Cup debut
against Bromley in their 3-0 win over The
Ravens in the First Round of the competi-
tion. Porters impressive performances
gained interest from clubs higher up the
leagues and George signed for Burnley in
2012. The move was dampened with Porter
picking up an injury at the start of the sea-
son. Halfway through the season he went on

SUBURBAN LEAGUE
RESULTS
THINK ‘Magic of the Cup’ for Non-League clubs and it’s the FA Cup which naturally springs to mind. And why wouldn’t it? That once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for part-time clubs to pit their wits against professional outfits in front of big crowds and on the big stage. It’s what clubs at our level live for. Sadly, this year’s FA Cup campaign proved something of a damp squib for Non-League clubs this year (Hereford, Woking and AFC Fylde aside), so with the Premier League big spenders left to battle it out for hon-ours, our attentions can now turn to an-other proud national competition with equal prestige at stake. This week, Step 4 minnows Hartley Wintney, Haringey Borough and Working-ton are preparing for, arguably, the biggest matches in their history when they play host to full-time National League outfits in the FA Trophy first round proper - just FOUR games away from gracing the biggest stage of them all at Wembley Stadium. Similar in many respects to its most lucra-tive bigger brother, the FA Trophy has, for me, been in danger of losing a bit of pres-tige in the last 10-15 years. Statistics show that with five rounds to play on a Saturday and a two-legged semi-final to play before the final, the Trophy has often played sec-ond fiddle for the Conference big guns who have their eyes firmly fixed on the main prize of a place in the Football League.
This, coupled with the fact that many clubs don’t include home FA Trophy ties as part of their season ticket package, has a drastic effect on attendance figures and therefore loses the competition credence when it comes to the business end of the season with crucial league places up for grabs. Thankfully, however, those days are slowly coming to an end and clubs are beginning to take the FA Trophy seriously again. Just ask Hartley Wintney, Haringey Borough and Workington, who will be staging their own Wembley final next Saturday with the respective visits of Bromley, Leyton Orient and Hartlepool United to their humble abodes. These three clubs - plus the other 61 in the hat for the first round next Saturday (16) - need only look back to May 21, 2017 when fans of York City and Macclesfield Town joined those of FA Vase finalists South Shields and Cleethorpes Town in a memo-rable Non-League Finals Day showcase under the arc, watched by a crowd of over 38,000. For them, that’s the magic of the cup, re-gardless of what competition it’s in.

soon and/or you can chip in on the day. As
well as the head shave there is also the Box-

is organising the Junior’s side and Mike
Cornwell the Senior Side. Kick off will be at

a league fixture in the afternoon against
