This term our topic will be all about space and our solar system. We will be thinking

about all of the different planets, night and day and the movement of the moon.

Each week a few activities will be sent out to complete that will lead towards creating

model of our solar system. With a description to describe each component.

Remember to post any work you complete and want to share on twitter and tag:

Task 1 – Find out about planet Earth

Overarching Question – What makes our solar system so complex

and how are the planets unique?

Page 3: Hartley Brook Primary Academy …  · Web viewRead the information given about Earth, then answer the questions given. This should give you lots of information about planet Earth

Enquiry Question – Why is planet Earth called the blue planet?

TaskRead the information given about Earth, then answer the questions given. This should give you lots of information about planet Earth and our solar system that you will be able to use to create your model at the end of the project. Remember to keep all your work safe as you will need it at the end of the project to create your model.

Task 2 – Fact HuntEnquiry Question – Which planet orbits closest to the

sun?

InformationEarth is only one of the planets in our solar system. There are seven other planets that also orbit our Sun: mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

In our Solar System, planets circle around our sun. The sun sits in the middle while the planets travel in circular paths (called orbits) around it. These planets travel in the same directions (counter-clockwise looking down from the sun’s north pole.

Task 3 – PosterEnquiry Question – How are the planets ordered?

InformationSaturn isn’t the only planet to have rings, but it definitely has the most beautiful ones. The rings we see are made of groups of tiny ringlets that surround Saturn. They’re made of chunks of ice and rock. Like Jupiter, Saturn is mostly a ball of hydrogen and helium. What can you find our about the other planets?Use the diagram below to help you with the order of the planets!

TaskUsing all of the facts that you have learned, create a poster about all of the planets in our solar system. How many facts can you remember?
