Laura
NVQ Level 2Hairdressing
Laura studiedBA (Hons) Business &Marketing at University before workingin the marketing department of abrush tanning company. Laura wantedto expand her managerial experienceworking as a fashion boutiqueAssistant Manager before travellingaround the world.
Laura chose the NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing
course as she realised she needed the
technical knowledge to effectively
manage her mums salon and handle
problems efficiently.
I find the technical aspects of the course
really interesting.
The best aspect of studying at
Harrogate College is the contact time
with tutors, developing skills and getting
support with all aspects of the course.
The most interesting aspect of the
course is the salon time and the practical
skills developed in the working salon with
real clients.
Laura plans to continue managing her
mums salon as a manager and stylist
after completing the course.
Arturs
IntroductoryDiploma inVocationalStudies
Arturs and his family moved from Latviashortly after Arturs finished secondaryschool. Arturs choose the course as hissister had studied the course and
recommended it.
I chose the course because it helped
improve my English as its not my first
language. The course allows me to study
English for Speakers of Other Languages
[ESOL] at Entry 3 as well as covering a
range of useful skills.
The best aspect of studying at college is
making new friends and wearing my own
clothes rather than a school uniform.
I enjoy IT and in particular developing
skills in PowerPoint and Excel. The course
also allows me to develop my customer
service skills working in a shop one day aweek.
After the course Arturs wants to
progress onto a First Diploma IT
Practitioners course with the longer
term aim of studying at University to
become an IT Technician.
Jannelle
NationalDiplomaPerforming Arts
Jannelle was at a schoolin Leeds and was ready for a newchallenge choosing Harrogate Collegeas it was recommended by her familyas it had the right course and gave herthe opportunity to meet a diverse rangeof people.
Studying at college is completely
different to studying drama at school as it
pushed my performance boundaries. The
support from the tutors and students
was excellent.
The most interesting aspect of the
course was physical theatre; my tutor
was inspirational in helping me to
develop my emotional performances
and explore my artistic creativity.
After the course Jannelle intends to
study a BA (Hons) Drama course andhopes to teach drama in primary or
secondary school once she
graduates.
Danni
NationalDiplomaPerforming Arts
Danni was at sixth formbut decided it wasnt for her as shecouldnt study performing arts.
I chose the course as my friends had
recommended it as it concentratedpurely on performing arts.
The best aspect of studying at
Harrogate College was gaining the
opportunity to create and devise our own
performances including dance and
physical theatre. The course also really
allowed me to gain confidence in front of
an audience.
The most interesting aspect of the
course was developing the
choreography and a routine for a musical
performance at the Harrogate Christmas
Lights switch on.
After the course Danni intends to
study a BA (Hons) Drama course at
Huddersfield University and hopes to
teach physical theatre at college or
