company goals & site objectives
Harrison’s Landing www.harrisonslanding.net Located in Corpus Christi, TX
Harrison’s Landing is the home of Corpus Christi’s finest tours, sail center, shopping, food, and bars. They host nightly music and entertainment and also provide rentals of their venue for hosting parties and banquets.
Harrison’s Landing’s mission is to provide quality service and entertainment to the people and tourists of Corpus Christi.
In their website redesign, Harrison’s Landing hopes to expand their demographic to an audience of young adults while keeping their existing audience of older professionals. They also want website visitors to get the lively experience of Harrison’s Landing on the website as well as in person by making it more interactive to users.

Bluff’s Landing Marina & Lodge www.bluffslanding.com Located in Corpus Christi, TX
Bluff’s Landing is a marina, lodge, and restaurant. Like Harrison’s Landing, it’s located right on the water in a prime tourist district. Their website is more modern than Harrison’s current website, but the color schemes (despite matching the branding) dates it and even makes some content extremely difficult to read. The background images are large enough, but they are distracting from the content. However, the navigation is cohesive and clear, and the flow of content from page to page feels mostly natural.

Wind & Wave Watersports www.windandwave.net Located in Corpus Christi, TX
Wind & Wave Watersports is a beach shop that sells and rents out surfboards and kayaks and also sells similar products as Harrison’s Landing, like apparel and gifts. Their website, though clear and simple, is very dated and lacks any interesting detail. They have many images and logos to provide all the information anyone would need to have before visiting, but it is laid out in a very random manner and lacks any kind of design. The business also lacks any kind of distinct logo and makes it appear cheap and generic. However, navigation and content is consistent and it is easy to move around the site.

House of Rock www.texashouseofrock.com Located in Corpus Christi, TX
House of Rock is a restaurant/bar that also hosts many musical entertainment events, like Harrison’s Landing. Their website looks like a template and nothing is really custom, so parts of it look disorganized like it’s not where it belongs. The color scheme speaks to a very specific audience though, and any information that should be there is there and is broken up appropriately, which should be a decent reference for HL’s redesign.

Water Street Market www.waterstmarketcc.com Located in Corpus Christi, TX
Water Street Market has one of the better websites of local competition. Like Harrison’s Landing, it is a central location with a bar and restaurants. Unlike Harrison’s Landing, its website does a good job at making those bars and restaurants appear as their own entities.
When accessing each different page for the Oyster Bar of the Executive Surf Club, the user is taken to a website that resembles the main site but has noticeable changes.
This both helps and hurts the website. The individual restaurants are able to stand on their own this way, but it can also be confusing to know where you are on the site. The design looks professional but templated and lacks much detail or interesting features after the header is gone.

La Palmera Mall www.lapalmera.com Located in Corpus Christi, TX
The La Palmera Mall is one of Corpus Christi’s biggest places to shop and eat both indoor and outdoor. Their website is a mix of modern and dated, but is decent at keeping information organized and accessible. The navigation is fluid and consistent and the content shown is informational and there is little doubt of what is available to do there.

Though not in the same categories, all five chosen competitors share one or more business aspects with Harrison’s Landing, whether it be shopping, eating, or boat rentals. Some of the businesses have a better branding and others have more consistent content on their websites. A couple also have a more defined audience that’s made obvious from the accessibility and interactivity on the websites. A mix of these various upper hands over Harrison Landing’s current website and branding may help give it a better web presence.

Harrison’s Landing’s current branding lacks much significance despite being a part of an industry known for its vitality and spirit. The logo looks authentic and has an old edge to it, but it doesn’t look like a clean logo that would speak to a younger audience as well as an older one.
brand identity
This rebrand attempts to bridge a gap between the older and younger generations that both visit this restaurant/bar/entertainment venue/shopping center.
The options keep an authentic “harbor” feel while maintaining a clean, modern look that will go perfect with a new updated website.
