Dear Church Family, We have been so blessed by this wonderful family for your prayers, flowers, food, cards, and visits. Our gratitude to Pastor Emmanuel for visits and Jeri Goodell for organizing a sign-up to have food brought in to us. This has been a long 8 months, but your acts of kindness will always be remembered. Our sincere thanks, Gladys & Leon Goodell
We offer our sympathy and our prayers to the family of Phyllis Graham. Her memorial service was held at LP UMC on Sat., Dec. 16th. Phyllis and her husband, Ronald, were longtime LP UMC members and resided in Sioux Valley where they farmed until moving into Lake Park for retirement.
hank you to my church family and Pastor Emmanuel for all of the caring support you gave me following the
loss of my wife, Charlene. I appreciated all of the prayers, calls, visits, food, and flowers that you gave me. It’s wonderful to have a caring church family. Sincerely, Rodney Graham
hank you to our special church family for the delightful Christmas basket of goodies. We wish you a blessed

Thank you!
y family and I thank you so much for all your cards and gifts you gave us for the holidays. Thank
you very much and may God richly bless you. Happy New Year! Pastor and family
Dear Church family, Happy New Year! Wishing you a "Happy New Year," for me, is a prayer that I do for you and your family. First, I pray and hope 2018 is the "Year of God's Favor in your life." With God's favor in your life, you will experience what follows:
✓ God is going to walk with you throughout the year. ✓ You get a better sense of God's plan for your life. Remember, God's plan is the best of
everything you need in life. God leads you and brings you to the right destinations to be this year. "The Spirit of the Lord has anointed me to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor" (Luke 4: 18-19). Second, I pray and hope that 2018 is the "Year of a New "YOU." You have to let God do it by drawing closer to Jesus Christ and dwelling in God's presence. You do it through a daily discipline of prayer, Bible reading and Christian fellowship. When you do the above, here's what happens:
✓ God makes you a new creation according to what God has in mind for you. ✓ The Old is gone. Everything becomes new. "So, if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:
everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!" (2 Corinthians 5: 17. ESV). ✓ You'll forgive and ask for forgiveness from others. In other words, you'll master your
responses to people's feelings and emotions. ✓ You'll choose to love everyone, no matter what! ✓ You'll come to the realization that you have "unlimited potential.” ✓ You'll be able to tap into what God has invested in you, and grow more to be a better
Christian and servant of other people. That's my prayer for you and your family this day, which I ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen and Happy New Year! Pastor Emmanuel

Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy.
Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. —Proverbs 12:18
IF: Lake Park—Feb. 9-10, 2018 About This Event: What IF we followed God with perseverance instead of insecurity? At IF:Gathering 2018, we will look at one of Paul’s letters to Timothy as he reminded him of the power and responsibility of sharing the gospel. We want to give God away in the very places He’s put us, so we’re going to gather for the purpose of remembering why following God and making disciples matters. We all get tired, we all wonder if what we’re doing matters, so IF:Gathering 2018 will be the reminder--it will be the celebration. The work we’re doing to share the gospel on the earth is worth it and God DOES move through the little things that nobody sees. Join us! Event Description: Women in the Lake Park and surrounding area are invited to share in a weekend of fellowship and learning about God at the Lake Park United Methodist Church. We will be hosting a 2-day LiveStream event starting on Friday and going through Saturday. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Friday for you to come and share a light meal before the event begins at 6 p.m. The event is from 6-9 p.m. on Friday and 9-5 on Saturday. Please join us at 8:30 a.m. Saturday for rolls and coffee before the event begins again at 9:00 a.m. We will have another meal together at noon on Saturday. We would love to have all the women in the area join us in this special women's gathering.

NO APOLOGIES Jan. 31, 2018—Clay County Events Center, Spencer, Iowa
Youth Groups meet at 6:00 for pizza and rides
The No Apologies Conference is made specifically for Teens and Tweens! Making decisions can be tough. Life throws many choices at us each and every day. Sometimes, it’s hard to know what’s right and what’s wrong.
No Apologies is an event for jr. high and high school students to learn about healthy decision making. Cherish Center wants to help prepare youth for a successful future by giving them the tools to make healthy choices in a sex-charged, drug-induced culture. We do this by bringing in bands and speakers that can reach out to youth and encourage them to make the right choices.
No Apologies is a ministry of the Cherish Center and is planned and implemented by an
interdenominational team of youth leaders and pastors from northwestern Iowa.

Greeting and handing
out programs Is it time yet?
January is a new beginning. As the first month of a new year it provides opportunities for change and additional chances to repeat what works well. This month you might like to look at some book series that
are now housed in our library. Whether they are a new experience or a practice that works well for you, starting with the first or any book in a series is similar to kicking off the beginning of a new year. Happy New Year and happy reading, Deb Morrow, Church Librarian
Amish Inn Mysteries: Simple Lies by Jan Fields, Murder Simply Played by Rachael O. Phillips, To Love and to Vanish by Tara Randel, Plain Deception by Tara Randel, Secrets of the Amish Diary by Rachael Phillips, and Law & Order by Jan Fields.
Sugarcreek Amish Mysteries: 1) Sorry, this one is MIA. 2) Where Hope Swells by Elizabeth Ludwig 3) The Buggy Before the Horse by Tricia Goyer 4) A Season of Secrets by Elizabeth Adams 5) O Little Town of Sugarcreek by Amy Lillard
These last two books are story collections, which I consider the mini-series of literacy. An Amish Market features the four novellas of Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller, Kelly Irvin and Vannetta Chapman. Then there is An Amish Harvest with Beth Wiseman, Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller & Vannetta Chapman.

The service of scripture, music, and Pastor’s message, “Jesus is

God,” was well attended.
A similar service was also held at the Harris UMC.
