The Danube countries have at disposal:
• Concept document (see ref . on the page 6) • Guidance on geometric harmonisationin the Danube River Basin
• Data templates• Tools for upload of harmonised GI,incl. metadata (ready soon)

HPoint - Rules
• HPoints have to be provided by all countries involved in the harmonisation process (two in most cases, three in some) resulting in two or three matching datasets;
• Only types of harmonisation points as listed in code list, not all types as used for the bilateral level;
• There should be at least 2 HPoints for each Hstretch (type 2 and 3);
• It is not possible to have one point with double function, e.g. one point with the function "end of HStretch" and "start of HStretch“;
▫ For each function separate points have to be provided which results in points having the same coordinates.

HStretch - Rules• HStretches have to be provided by both countries
involved in the harmonisation process resulting in two matching datasets;
• There is a 1:n relationship between HStretch and RWSeg;• HStretch and the relevant RWSeg segments have to have
the same geometry;• There is a n:1 relationship between HStretch and River;
one HStretch can not range over two rivers;• If one border river stretch is formed by two or more rivers, for
each river a seperate HStretch has to be defined (example: border river stretch between Bavaria and Austria - Salzach & Inn);
• Only two countries can be involved in a HStretch▫ If alongside a border river stretch countries at the right
bank or left bank change, a new HStretch has to be defined;

Transboundary water body– what does it really mean?

a) Border surface water body is a body of water that by one or more points of the coordinate image of the watercourse axis touches the state border. In the case of water bodies in lake category the border water body shall also be considered that part of the lake which is divided by virtual segment and this segment touches the state border or merges in it.
Note: By this definition and tools used for the geometric harmonisation of the river network transboundary waters / water bodies are strictly divided with regard to the interests of individual countries, and respect the requirements of the WISE electronic reporting.
Consideration why should be incorrect usage of term „transboundary water body“ was accepted from notes of Mrs. Gabriella Jelinek (from HU), member of the IMGIS of ICPDR.

Transboundary surface water area
b) The area of cooperation on the transboudary waters in the sense of implementation of the WFD shall mean a seamless transboundary group of border water bodies (tbSWA). If necessary, also „non-border“ surface water bodies following up with border surface water bodies may be assigned to tbSWA. In these areas, usually both states declare their interest in bilateral cooperation at the level of commissions for transboundary waters.
Merging in SWBs from different categories – lakes and rivers– is impossible.
