Instead, I found real people drawing upon a well of enormous courage and character meeting the challenge of their loss head-on and without hesitation. Their sorrow was present but I knew then that it would not win this day or any other day. I also saw a dealership and its staff reel under the same shock for a brief moment and then pick itself up and carry on. And so it is only fitting, to honor him appropriately, that we would determine to stay on the path that he has lead us to set in motion. The store will ramp up to meet the holiday demand and this chapter will go on; we will meet on the first Saturday as we always have, we will have our officer elections, and we will have our holiday party with the dealership as planned. Deep down, I know that to do anything less than move forward would run counter to anything that Russ would expect and would be less than he would accept. We have not shed our last tears, for the hurt and the loss go deep. But from here, we look forward to a new year, to our next riding season, and to a new page in the life of this chapter. And while the pain and the sorrows of the last year are still fresh and would have us long to re -write its history, I also know that I would not have missed it for the world! So we realize that the most important moment we will have in life is the one we are in right now. More so, we realize that the most important people in the world are the ones we love. I look forward to a new year in our chapter, to new things, new rides, new places, and new members. I look forward to riding every time I can if for no other reason than simply because I can. I look forward to wrenching and squeezing as much from life as I can handle and maybe a little bit more. And in doing these things, this is how we honor Russ' memory. Message from your Director

It has been a month already since our last meeting and our last newsletter. Daylight Savings Time has fled and along with it , the last of the leaves on the maple trees in my yard. To make up for it, the wind continues to coax a steady stream of leaves from the neighbor's begrudging oak tree as it attempts to string a continual trickle of leaves across my yard for the duration of the entire winter. Winter itself seems to have found its footing this week with temperatures that dropped to freezing as if determined to stay there until spring thaw. And right on cue were the snowflakes (and some sleet) to set the spirit and heighten the holiday hysteria.

The days have been speeding by, and the pace quickens with each passing day as they all rush headlong into the holiday season. And yet, the world seemed to shudder to an abrupt halt and balanced on the brink of unraveling itself a few weeks ago when we received news that we had lost Russ. It was a terrible shock and it is st ill a shock to think of the chapter and our world at the dealership without him. ARTICLE VI. ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS

Section 1. Each Officer listed in Article V and those added per amendments are elected to a term of one year. Terms will begin in January and end in December of that year.

Section 2. An Officer listing will be posted no later than November 1, at Motorcycles of Indian-apolis. Those members seeking an Officer position should sign-up under the office of their choice. Elections will take place at the December Chapter Meeting. The member receiving the majority of the votes shall be declared elected to that office. In the event of a tie, or no member receives the majority vote, a run off election shall be held be-tween the two candidates receiving the most votes.

Section 3. Candidates will be presented in the order stated in Article V. The Director will call for further nominations from the floor for each off ice. The votes will be cast for that office before nominations for the next office will begin. All voting will be done by ballot unless there is only one candidate at which time a show of hands will be acceptable.

Section 4. The sponsoring dealer reserves the right to reject any elected officer it deemed unsatis-factory to serve the office elected to.

Con’t Page 5

We have had requests from members that are looking to link up with other members for impromptu rides. Some are looking for like-minded bikers to do a lunch ride or a day ride for an upcoming weekend or in the middle of the week. A variety of work schedules and retirement status for many of our members create multiple opportunities for assembling a group, large or small, for an impromptu outing. While these would not be considered official chapter events, we would like to assist members in making connections we each other by posting their requests, ideas, or availability for rides.

Chapter Elections As you know, every December is our annual officer elections for our H.O.G chapter. We encourage all members to come and vote for the chapter officers for 2009. Traditionally, it is one of our largest meetings of the year as mem-bers come to weigh in on the ballots.

As determined by National H.O.G., only members with a valid national and chapter membership are eligible to vote. Please bring your chapter membership card to the meeting and be sure to sign in when you arrive. In case you have misplaced your membership card, we will also have national and chapter membership lists available to stream-line things as much as possible.

We are posting the rules for the elections so that we are all on the same page for this meeting. All offices are up for election including the new position of the Membership Officer announced in the October Chapter meeting. All chapter members are encouraged to run for an office. Perhaps you have considered an office in the past, or maybe you are looking for a chance to be more involved with the chapter activities. Or, maybe you have some new ideas that you would like to bring to the table and new directions that you would like to take the group.

The nomination forms are posted on the display board in the back of the dealership; they will remain there until the start of the December chapter meeting. There is a sign-up sheet for each office. It is perfectly acceptable to nomi-nate yourself for any of these positions; in fact, it is encouraged!

To insure a smooth and successful election process, the following rules of eligibility are posted as follows: The candidate's membership must be in good standing with National H.O.G. The candidate's membership must be in good standing with Indianapolis Chapter #1. The candidate must ride a Harley Davidson Motorcycle - as rider or passenger. Per this Chapter's by-laws, the position of Road Captain requires that the candidate has successfully completed the

Experienced Rider's Course prior to the election. The candidate must be present at the elections in the December Chapter meeting to be nominated for office,

OR If the candidate is not able to attend the December Chapter meeting election, the candidate must have given verbal consent to his or her nomination to one of the officers who will be present at the election.

During the election, for each office, each candidate will be asked to: Introduce himself or herself to the chapter, State which Harley-Davidson he or she rides, And speak to why they are running for a chapter office.

Plans are already beginning to build within the chapter for 2009. Running for an off ice is an excellent way to con-tribute to another successful year in the life of our chapter! Feel free to contact any of the officers for additional in-formation.

Your Chapter Officers

Thank You Note: Butch Wuensch would like to thank all of his Harley friends who think of him and pray for him. He is a touch old bird, but he has had a lot of feathers plucked lately! He also wants to thank Chapter #1 for the beautiful planter he received. It is always nice to be remembered. I know he misses riding and the fellowship of fellow riders. He will always be You Friend in the Wind. Sandy Wuensch
