“A Great Day in Harlem,” the first public event of HARLEM

WEEK 2013, attracted over 42,000 people to Ulysses S.Grant National Memorial Park throughout the day.  This

year’s event was a salute to the 150th Anniversary of theEmancipation Proclamation.

In the first segment, attendees enjoyed the Cultural Showcasewhich featured Harlem Arts Alliance member performers from

selected local arts & culture organizations. The second segment

was a Gospel Showcase featuring The ARC Gospel Choir,The St. Paul’s Baptist Church Choir and others.     The very

popular “Fashion Fusion” Showcase, which embraced our

2013 theme, “Living the Dream: Celebrating History,”was the best yet, attracting regional and international models and

designers. Following the fabulous fashion showcase, it was show

time: “A Concert Under the Stars” featuring a special tribute

to Motown legend Stevie Wonder’s famous “Songs in theKey of Life.” Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans and a

torrential down pour forced the cancellation of the Stevie Wonder

tribute. We rescheduled the tribute to take place onHARLEM DAY, Sunday, August 18th.
