December 2019 Page 1 Happy Winter Holidays! By Jessica Sweeney With the holiday season in full swing, many of us expect to celebrate with long standing traditions and family gatherings. To our Mayfair Village family, holiday traditions are just as important, and we are ready for the fun and fellowship to begin! The flurry of the holiday unfolds against a backdrop of Christmas trees on every floor, beautiful menorahs to light, holiday music, and much cheer! We look forward to our Holiday Market, Christmas movies, outside musicians and carolers, the holiday per- formance of our choir (residents and staff), a visit from Santa, the Fireman Toys for Tots luncheon, an exquisite Christmas Dinner, and last but not least, our fabulous New Years Eve Party. No doubt, December is one of the most wonderful times of the year in our community! We find that 50-80% of seniors choose to stay in for the holidays, they feel safe here, so we encourage our fami- lies and friends to visit anytime. Please check out our community calendar and plan what festivities you want to make plans to attend! Our community setting offers so many opportunities for seniors to enjoy friendships and engaging with others, sharing delicious meals and experiences, throughout the year. We know that being in a stimulating engaging environment is the #1 healthiest thing for seniors, and the list of benefits goes on and on. At a time of year when being home alone is tough, and the rate of depression tends to spike, we feel blessed to live and work in such a warm, cheerful, caring community. Mayfair Village is the best home away from home that you can imagine. Our entire community is here to empower our residents to live life with joy and fulfillment, with as much or as little support as you need. If loneliness, mobility, preparing meals, safety, or lack of transportation issues are impacting your quality of life at home, we can help! Now is the time for our outside readers and their families have important conversations about the gifts of community, purpose, friendships and support that await you at Mayfair Village. A move to Mayfair is the best gift you can give yourself, and your loved ones! To help you explore the next chapter in your life, call Jessica Sweeney or Bill Hylton. We can be reached at (859) 266-2129. We will welcome you with open arms.

Calling all crafters and calming all of the nerves of the non-crafters!! Please join us Monday, December 9th at 1:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room for a Holiday Wreath Workshop. The very talent-ed Suzanne Bauer and The Mayfair Garden Club will join forces to provide the supplies, instructions and creativity to help you, yes even you, produce the most beautiful wreath for your front door. The 2nd floor residents and staff are especially invited to this workshop to put the finishing touches on their floor in preparations for the upcoming Open House. Choose something from the list below and engage in something new. It’s a great way to protect your brain. Guests are always welcome.

THE CROWN SEASON 3: Mondays in December, 7p.m. Based on an award-winning play ("The Audience") by showrunner Peter Morgan, this lav-ish, Netflix-original drama chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) from the 1940s to modern times. The series begins with an inside look at the early reign of the queen, who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her father, King George VI. As the dec-ades pass, personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries are revealed that played a big role in events that shaped the later years of the 20th century. Each episode is around 45 minutes long, we will play two each Monday evening. LUNCH BUNCH: Thursday, December 19th, 11 a.m. This month we will go to Cracker Barrel Old Country Store where we will combine a holi-day shopping trip with good ol’ fashioned home cookin’. This place is the perfect spot to eat a warm meal and pick up some last minute goodies for loved ones. Please sign up in the Concierge Office VILLAGE VOICES: Sunday, December 22, 4:30 p.m. Under the direction of Sue McGee, we are preparing our annual holiday performance. This is the perfect time for newcomers to join the Village Voices. We will sing several holiday songs, most which are familiar to everyone. There won’t be as much new music to learn, making this a great time to try us out. For more information about this activity talk to Stephanie. READER’S THEATER: Monday, December 23rd, 1:30 p.m. We will be reading, The Trouble with the Christmas Presents by Mary P. Hamlin. This activ-ity is just the thing for someone who loves theater. Copies of a play are given out. Everyone chooses a part and then we read it aloud as a group. This is a great opportunity to learn something new or revisit an old passion. This month’s play, If you don’t want to participate by reading, you can be a part of our peanut gallery. For more information, contact Stephanie. BOOK GROUP DISCUSSION: Thursday, December 26th, 6:30 p.m. This month we will be reading One Day in December by Josie Silver. One Day in Decem-ber is a beautifully written story about love at first sight. But love at first sight doesn't al-ways mean happily ever after. Laurie makes eye contact with a man from her bus window and falls instantly in love. Later, her roommate, Sarah, introduces Laurie to her new boy-friend, Jack Jess read this book last December and thinks it is a nice snuggly book for the season. For more information about this activity, contact Sharye.

Christmas Open House By: Marsha Cable

The 2nd floor here at Mayfair Village has apart-ments just like all the other floors, but the differ-ence is that the 2nd floor is a state certified personal care facility. It is intended to give residents some assistance with their daily activities, which may in-clude medicine administration, help with bathing and dressing, among others. A small intimate din-ing room is served by the 1st floor kitchen. There is staff available 24/7 to help meet the residents’ needs. Per state regulations, there are also separate activities for the residents on 2nd floor. All Mayfair residents are invited to attend these 2nd floor activi-

ties. Our goal is to have all the Mayfair activities open to everyone, regardless of what floor they are on. To showcase the 2nd floor, we are hosting an Open House. We want you to see our beautiful Christmas decorations and visit with the staff and residents.
