Mr. Chody’s Chatter The lights are back on in the indoor garden! This month the Eco-Team, which is comprised of students from each of the grade 3 classes, has started plant-ing seeds for our indoor garden. The team has de-cided to plant a variety of seeds from varieties of lettuce, carrots, peppers and tomatoes. We are also developing a herb garden in hopes to discuss the dif-ferences between the two types of gardens. Let’s hope that our indoor gardens have a better yield than in the past!

For those that are continuing to look for great math games or activities to do at home, Manitoba Educa-tion has a great website that outlines several games and activities. With supplies that you have around the house, you should be able to have hours of fun while learning and developing your children’s math skills.

Lost and Found Detectives

A group of grade 4 students will be sorting

through the Happy Thought Lost and Found

corner regularly to find any items with names

and/or initials on them. They will then work

very hard to use their detective skills to re-

turn those items to their owners, It would

be very helpful if as many items as possible

that are brought and/or worn to school

have names on them. To date, more than 15

items have been returned to their owners.

The detectives appreciate any support that

helps them reduce the number of items in the

Lost and Found corner.

Kindergarten Registration for 2016-2017

We are now accepting kindergarten registration for both our English and English-Ukrainian Bilingual programs for children born

in 2011. The English-Ukrainian program is available to all children in the Lord Selkirk School Division. We are asking our parents to register as soon as possible because we now provide readiness packages for children prior to their entering kindergarten. This material will help your child be better prepared for school. For additional information, please contact the school at 482-4521.

Plastic Bag Collection Thank you for all the plastic bags you

have collected! We ended with over

28000 bags and are waiting to see if

we qualified for a bench. We are no

longer able to collect bags until next

September and ask families to either

save bags at home or recycle them at

stores such as Walmart, Safeway, or

Marketplace. We look forward to col-

lecting again next September!

The LSSD PowerSchool Portal The LSSD PowerSchool Portal, is a secure online website that allows par-

ents or guardians to access their child’s attendance, academic progress,

teacher comments and more. Each parent is able to create a unique password to access the portal. The

portal can help parents, their child, and the schools provide yet another

method to communicate important student information. All new HTS parents will receive an “Access ID” letter with their child’s

November report card. This letter will contain the access ID and pass-

word for each child . Parents will also receive an instruction booklet with

information on how to set up a parent/guardian account. For families with

more than one child, instructions will include how to add additional chil-

dren to your existing account. Access to student information will empower parents to have improved

communication with their children about their academic progress. This

tool is not meant to replace the personal contact we wish to have with our

students and families. Our hope is that it will enhance communication

between home and school and promote academic success by reinforcing

the important partnership between parents and schools.

Just a reminder to everyone to always wash your hands after using the bathroom and before eating. There are a lot of germs just waiting to catch a ride. Don’t give them a chance!!!

Dear Petrusia,

Will the Manitoba Parents for Ukrainian Education be putting their float in the Winnipeg Santa Claus Parade?

From, Mrs. Neil

Dear Mrs. Neil,

Yes and the parade will be on TV because it will also be part of the Grey Cup Parade! Maybe I will join them with my football!

From Petrusia

It’s perishky making time! We will be making perishky dough on Friday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m. in the Blessed Virgin Mary Church basement in East Selkirk and assembling the tasty buns starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, No-vember 21st at ESMS. If you would like to join us (but have not yet returned your volunteer form) or have ques-tions, please contact Dayna at 481-2777.

A great big Dyakuju to all of the families that brought in new and gently used clothing, toys, and school supplies for the humanitarian project sponsored by the Myloserdia Humanitarian Association of Ukrainian Volunteers. The donations will be sent to the orphanages in the Ukraine just in time for Christmas.
