How to read the school timetable and pack schoolbag
Develop an after-school routine, such as setting aside time for homework and play. Having a specific area for school books, materials and clothes
Building confidence and independence
Share your personal experiences of school and encourage your child to share their experience and feelings.
Explain to them the amount of money they have and how to spend it.
Let your child know that you believe in him and encourage him to ask teachers or older students.
Transition to Primary One
Listening and relaying information
Schools and teachers often communicate information to parents through letters or verbal instructions in class.
Do regular checks on these letters and let your child know the importance of relaying the information, by passing on the forms or writing the instructions in their diary.
Being involved
Consider joining the school’s Parent Support Group (PSG) or volunteering at the school. Being involved provide you and your child with opportunities to have shared experiences and conversations.

Dismissal from Hall on first 2 days (come 10 mins earlier)

After, first 2 days, be on time to pick up your child at the gates (Gate A, Gate C, Gate D)
Come into the side of canteen (Gate A) or Corridors (Gate C, Gate D) on rainy days
Recess Arrangement
Recess in the Classroom on Day 1

from Day 2 – Day 3 (Week 1)
Parents can drop by on Day 2, and to stay at sides of canteen
Parents should not visit during recess after Day 2
Some Points to Note
Send your child to school punctually (7.20 a.m.)
Check that your child is well for school
Ensure your child has a story book for Silent Reading
Do not allow your child to bring games or toys to
school
Attendance is compulsory on school days
Do not take your child on holiday before the term closes
Do not return late when term reopens
Some Points to Note
If your child forgets to bring water bottles / books to
school, there is no need to help bring the items.
If your child forgets to bring money to school, he/she
can come to the office to get biscuits for recess.
No lending or borrowing money
Communicate with your child’s teacher on any issue or
to seek clarification. Do not approach another child.

Focus on your child
Build your child’s self-esteem and confidence by recognising his/her
efforts and not just his/her successes.
Don’t dwell on mistakes and academic marks. Rather, always
encourage your child to strive for improvement.
Build a strong relationship with your child
Develop parent-child relationships that are loving, warm and
responsive.
Listen, respond and talk to your child
Create opportunities to explore and learn
Give your child opportunities to explore and develop independence,
while offering support when needed.
Provide real-life experiences to learn. One way you can do this is to
include him/her in everyday routines.

Chat with your child as much as possible and encourage his/her
self expression
Read with your child and encourage his/her questions. Choose
books carefully. Introduce a wide variety of text styles
Have oral storytelling sessions with your child by taking turns to

Encourage your child to express himself/herself through painting
and drawing.
