SERIES: LIVING MY BLESSED LIFE

TOPIC: - HOPE: GOD’S DIVINE PLAN – Pastor Alton Trimble Sunday, January 5, 2020

Philippians 3:12-14 (NKJV) Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

HEBREW AND GREEK USE OF THE WORD ‘HOPE’: OLD TESTAMENT:

Psalm 62:1-2 (NLT) I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. Psalm 46:1 (NLT) God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalm 130:7 (NLT) O Israel, hope in the LORD for with the LORD there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows. Micah 7:7 (NLT) As for me, I look to the LORD for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me. Proverbs 14:26 (NLT) Those who fear the LORD are secure; he will be a refuge for their children. Psalm 145:15 (NLT) The eyes of all look to you in hope; you give them their food as they need it. Proverbs 13:12 (MSG) Unrelenting disappointment leaves you heartsick, but a sudden good break can turn life around.

NEW TESTAMENT:

Romans 15:12 (NKJV) There shall be a root of Jesse; and He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, in Him the Gentiles shall hope.

Romans 8:24-25 (NKJV) For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

Romans 5:1-2 (NKJV) Therefore, having been justified by faith, [a]we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Ephesians 1:17-19 (NKJV) ...that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power. 1 John 3:3 (NKJV) And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

PRINCIPLES OF DIVINE HOPE: 1. I MUST EMBRACE RIGHT THINKING ABOUT MYSELF AND THEREBY OTHERS.

Matthew 5:23-24 (NLT) So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, 24 leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God. Luke 18:9-14 (NLV) Jesus told another picture-story to some people who trusted in themselves and thought they were right with God. These people did not think well of other men. 10 Jesus said, “Two men went up to the house of God to pray. One of them was a proud religious law-keeper. The other was a man who gathered taxes. 11 The proud religious law-keeper stood and prayed to himself like this, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men. I am not like those who steal. I am not like those who do things that are wrong. I am not like those who do sex sins. I am not even like this tax-gatherer. 12 I go without food two times a week so I can pray better. I give one-tenth part of the money I earn.’ 13 But the man who gathered taxes stood a long way off. He would not even lift his eyes to heaven. But he hit himself on his chest and said, ‘God, have pity on me! I am a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went back to his house forgiven, and not the other man. For whoever makes himself look more important than he is will find out how little he is worth. Whoever does not try to honor himself will be made important.”

Luke 15:11-32 (NLV) 11 And Jesus said, “There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger son said to his father, ‘Father, let me have the part of the family riches that will be coming to me.’ Then the father divided all that he owned between his two sons. 13 Soon after that the younger son took all that had been given to him and went to another country far away. There he spent all he had on wild and foolish living. 14 When all his money was spent, he was hungry. There was no food in the land. 15 He went to work for a man in this far away country. His work was to feed pigs. 16 He was so hungry he was ready to eat the outside part of the ears of the corn the pigs ate because no one gave him anything. 17 “He began to think about what he had done. He said to himself, ‘My father pays many men who work for him. They have all the food they want and more than enough. I am about dead because I am so hungry. 18 I will get up and go to my father. I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am not good enough to be called your son. But may I be as one of the workmen you pay to work?”’ 20 “The son got up and went to his father. While he was yet a long way off, his father saw him. The father was full of loving-pity for him. He ran and threw his arms around him and kissed him. 21 The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am not good enough to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to the workmen he owned, ‘Hurry! Get the best coat and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet. 23 Bring the calf that is fat and kill it. Let us eat and be glad. 24 For my son was dead and now he is alive again. He was lost and now he is found. Let us eat and have a good time.’ 25 “The older son was out in the field. As he was coming near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 He called one of the servants and asked what was happening. 27 The servant answered, ‘Your brother has come back and your father has killed the fat calf. Your brother is in the house and is well.’ 28 The older brother was angry and would not go into the house. His father went outside and asked him to come in. 29 The older son said to his father, ‘All these many years I have served you. I have always obeyed what you said. But you never gave me a young goat so I could have a supper and a good time with my friends. 30 But as soon as this son of yours came back, you killed the fat calf. And yet he wasted your money with bad women.’ 31 “The father said to him, ‘My son, you are with me all the time. All that I have is yours. 32 It is right and good that we should have a good time and be glad. Your brother was dead and now he is alive again. He was lost and now he is found.’” Philippians 3:12a (NKJV) Not that I have already attained…

a. Hope’s expectation

Philippians 2:13-16 (NLT) For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. 14 Do everything without complaining and arguing, 15 so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. 16 Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.

Philippians 3:12b (NKJV) …or am already perfected…

b. Hope’s realization

I need His help to find strength.

Proverbs 18:10 (NLT) The name of the LORD is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. Nehemiah 8:10 (NLT) And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!” Isaiah 41:10 (NLT) Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Exodus 15:2 (NLT) The LORD is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise him— my father’s God, and I will exalt him!

Psalm 9:10 (NLT) Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you. Psalm 34:10b (NLT) Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing.

I need help to overcome worry or fear.

Luke 12:25-26 (NLT) Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 26 And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Isaiah 43:1-3 (NLT) But now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. 2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. 3 For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I gave Egypt as a ransom for your freedom; I gave Ethiopia and Seba in your place.

Philippians 4:6 (NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Psalm 27:1-3 (NLT) The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? 2 When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. 3 Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. Psalm 34:4 (NLT) I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Joshua 1:9 (NLT) “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Isaiah 12:2 (NLT) See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The LORD GOD is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.

I need the help of God’s power in difficult times.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT) Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. Isaiah 40:29 (NLT) He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. 1 Peter 5:10 (NLT) In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

Hebrews 4:16 (NLT) So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

2. I MUST MOVE FORWARD, EVEN IF IT IS WITH A LIMP.

Philippians 3:12c (NKJV) …but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

Hope sees beyond imperfections, limitations and inconveniences.

Philippians 3:13a (NKJV) Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended… Romans 12:3 (NKJV) For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

My hope is built on His perfection.

Psalm 138:6-8 (NKJV) Though the LORD is on high, yet He regards the lowly; but the proud He knows from afar. 7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. 8 The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

21 DAYS OF FASTING & CONSECRATION 2020

OUR 21 DAYS OF FASTING & CONSECRATION WILL FOLLOW THE GUIDELINE OF THE

DANIEL FAST. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Romans 12:2

“Draw Near to God and He will draw to you.” James 4:8

In keeping with this scripture, GCFI’s Consecration is more than just “something we do every year.” Even Webster defines consecration as “dedication to the service and worship” of God.

We are taking this month, as it is the beginning of a new year, to make it a time of setting our entire selves apart in dedication to the Lord. Let this be a time of tremendous blessing and

revelation for you as we diligently seek God’s face as a community of faith.

FASTING & CONSECRATION

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came

into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” Daniel 10:2, 3

During the Fast we will be abstaining from certain foods and spending time in prayer and in God’s Word.
