WOODBURY COMMUNITY CHURCH / MAY 2018 NEWSLETTER

From Our Pastor

I count it a joy and privilege to be your transitional pastor. Though we may be together for only a short time, we will build relationships that will last for eternity. Over the years Interim/transitional pastoring has changed. Instead of just filling the pulpit, interim pastoring has become more intentional. “The Mission of Interim Pastor Ministries is to strength-en churches during pastoral transition for greater effectiveness.” Every church has its strengths as well as areas where growth is needed. As a transi-tional pastor, I want to encourage you in your areas of strength and help you grow in other areas. The vision for the next few months is to help solidify who you are as a congregation and see how God has uniquely called you to his kingdom work in your community and in the world. This will assist you as God directs you to your new lead pastor. IPM has established a seven-step process for an effective interim/transitional pastorate. 1. Connection

Over the next couple of months, I would love to meet with as many of you as possible. I want to hear your story, what you value, and how God is working in your life.

2. Inspection: Conduct a Self-study

During this time we will be taking some surveys which ask questions about church health. In the past, WCC has used the Natural Church Development church health survey so that will be one that we will use again. It will be helpful to see what has changed and what has remained the same.

3. Lead the Search Team

a. Reviewing and coming to terms with the history of the church

b. Examining leadership and organiza-tional needs

c. Strengthening denominational and external relationships

d. Discovering who you are as a church — examining your identity

e. Looking to the future – a commitment to new pastoral leadership and the future

4. Correction: Repair What is Not Working Stage four is where we begin to make

some changes and adjustments. It’s not always easy, but it's important to make adjustments to align things with the unique vision God has given WCC.

5. Direction: Develop and Begin Implementing a

Strategic Action Plan Once the unique God-given vision for WCC has been determined, we will begin to implement a short-term strategic plan that begins to move the church in the direction that helps fulfill that vision.

6. Selection: Coach Pastoral Search Team

During stages three, four, and five we will be working on the search process. The search team will be putting together community profiles, church profiles and a job description for the new pastor.

7. Transition to the New Pastor

Transitioning to the new pastor is an excit-ing time! During this time I will do my best to prepare you for the incoming Sr. Pastor. We will study the word of God, looking at the role of a pastor and how you as a con-gregation can encourage and support your pastors.

Life is a journey and not a destination. I am excited that God has brought us all together during this part of our journey.

God Bless, Pastor Dawson Grover
